I was a CoH player since launch, and was always impressed with the team's commitment to the community and making meaningful great updates with each new issue.
Despite my best efforts, Champions never really did it for me compared to CoH/CoV. For me, nothing in the superhero MMO space has really ever recaptured the magic of CoH. It had a very specific, almost joyful, aspect to how it portrayed its city, and was always filled with moments of hilarity and sobering storylines. But most of all, it was a great game to boot up, team up with 7 other costumed freaks, and just let fists and energy beams fly in warehouses. Adding PhysX was one of the best things added to CoH, since bodies were suddenly flying left and right from knockback effects.
I even found my old CoH comics in a cardboard box the other day! Can you even imagine a subscription MMO sending you comics today?
CoH is currently in an odd space regarding licensing and free community servers. Can Cryptic buy it back from NCSoft? One can only hope...
I'm excited to see you back at the helm, and hope this brings great things to Cryptic's titles.
It's so over
I have no point to what I am saying. I just miss the old days. The old communities. The time in which we could leisurely escape into these vast digital worlds.
Much love to everyone. And for what it is worth Jack, you changed a lot of lives with City of Heroes. I wish you genuine good luck.
I have offered to fix CO before, and this is my final lift of the eyebrow, please inject hope.
The changes done over the last 10 years has crippled CO's chances of retaining players. You keep having new players try the game, but not stick around for very long and the reasons are obvious lessons which are not being learned, and when the entire veteran community is literally yelling out loud the wrongs that have been happening...it has been on deaf ears.
We know how to fix CO, but a lot of time has gone by with our expertise being overrided, by selfish ego's or folks who dont completely understand what theyre doing to the systems, often making changes to suit themselves and not the entire community.
I can put my offer of support, i know how to fix CO...on the table.
You need only reach over and meet half way.
I'll never return to CO.
CoH we all know about its stories, including with CO when both were competiting against each others while being made by the same company. But I am still a fond of CO, despite of many hates I can give with its negative points because it is rare to see a Super Hero MMORPG that is still alive as "Official" (CoH is considered as a private server so it does not count. But It works very fine and updating things up too. A big thumbs up for the fans there.)
So far, from the CO discord, many players did sent bugs to fix, ideas, power balancements, etc. It is quite unfortunate that these topics which the players had been talking about since years were barely been touched.
I think what it would need there is litterally a very large table and to look at the pile of files which they had not been looked upon since then. I know the list itself is long, especially for each games. But some of them, to my eyes, require more attentions than the others at this point.
