Most of the AI are terrible at driving.On Tip of the spears, on legendary difficulty, I was trying to kill the enemies at the bridge with the rocket launcher warthog to make the fighting easier and she drove the car into the gap hahahh

I know it can be a little frustrating if you want to play with the big toys but that's how it is.
You drive. And if you don't you don't want ANYONE jumping in that seat it's a matter of life and death (sometimes it's a good idea to park the vehicle and use the turret on remote enemies).

If you really want to shoot while someone somewhat reliable drives, coop is your friend.
