Sort out finding a multiplayer game, the networking code in this game is horrific it's painful just to find a game atm.

I agree that the game has some big problems but saying it's a waste of money is far from the truth. I mean the game is very cheap to purchase and basically for many people, us old guys especially it is the only way to get to play magic. Used to play back in 1994-96 when I was in my early teens so playing it irl now is not an option now. Impossible to find people to play with and joining the local "nerd club"(no pun intended) down the street to play wiht people half your age... creepy, so just no.

About finding a multiplayer game the only thing that seems to work is basically to create a game yourself and then go do something else for 3min or so while you wait for someone to join. After someone has joined it's no problem since you will tend to play several games in a row with that person.

What I wonder though is how the matchmaking system works? I would assume one of the problems is that the game is trying to find people with roughly the same rating. Obviously the higher your rating is the harder it would become since there are less people available. Or can you get matched up with someone that has significantly lower/higher rating then yourself?

Perhaps it would be best to just tank your rating if it would lead to having an easier time finding games. I don't care about my rating so doesn't matter much to me.

Which part isn't working with the "network code," finding a random player? The game ran fine for me in 1v1 on 2 occassions so far -- on a preset game. Maybe start friending people with an interest and invite to game, is an option. Someone could start an "add me" thread, that worked for another game I play.

Unfortunately there are many games with MP issues, some which cost much more than this game. It doesn't justify it, but that's the state of gaming, and for the devs part ,some of this stuff is expensive and difficult to fix. But I guess there is a history with this game so I won't defend that. We could use more companies like Runic Games...but I digress.

Be sure you're using a compatible firewall (in game mode) router setting and good dns. I use Comodo Firewall and their DNS and MalwareBytes for AV and never have a problem even in games with reported problems. If you're using AVG expect problems in many games.

My router is an old Netgear model -- not sure if there are any NIC issues with the game. This might not apply to people who have written so far, but just FYI.

Thanks for the constructive replies guys. Yeah I have set up my router for gaming, I haven't specifically forwarded ports for this game though. I use Avast at the moment but am looking at changing maybe I'll try MalwareBytes. I have this game set as an exception on my firewall and AV.

I am pretty high rated from back when I played vanilla, just came back to play the added content. It seems when I try to join games on the list often I just do not connect. When this happens I spend about 30 secs just stalling with no way to back out. I also noticed "ghost" games, i.e I would make a game back out for maybe 15 mins or so and then look for a custom free for all and my game would still be on the list. I guess anyone trying to connect to that game would fail to connect like I described previously and maybe this is the real problem.

The thing is they don't seem to want to spend the money to fix it. Magic the Gathering games are kind of cash cows at the moment and will sell just due to the brand strength regardless of how polished the product is. Look at Magic Online and this, pretty sad really because it would be awesome to have a truly satisfying Magic experience online.

Also and this is the most annoying bug yet. Sometimes when I fail to join a game a message pops up saying join request pending, then all games dissapear and you cannot create or join any other game untill you quit the app and start it back up again.

The frequency of these bugs are markedly higher than when I played this on release.

"Join is Pending" has to be the stupidest error ever. Just fix it or give us a way to see when people's ghost games are left behind.
