Game crashes immediately on launch.
I just picked up the game and I'm not even able to launch it. Every time I try I get to the screen with the Thunder Lotus logo and the game crashes to desktop. Any known fix for this? I updated my video card drivers and verified installation through steam without fixing the issue.

Can you check at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Thunder Lotus Games\Spiritfarer if there is any file called player .log? I might be able to see what went wrong from the content. Just to make sure, I would suggest unplugging any odd peripheral you might have (flightstick, etc). Citrix has also been known to cause issue with Unity games if you this running.

I have the same issue, I sent a ticket with more info, but I tried to lauch the game without any peripherals other than mouse and keyboard, nothing but steam running, no crash log in appData.
tried to re-install twice and I checked file integrity.

EDIT: after trying a bit I found an error in the player.log file

EDIT 2 : after letting the game frozen for about 3-5 min it gets to the loading screen normally

Mine crashes right after Kowloon Nights logo too. Some Unity window pops up super quickly while it crashes and that's it.

Any possible help or should I refund?
Did the integrity check too which was 100% OK. I also have the latest NVidia drivers and Windows 10 updates as of 14th November 2020.

The error indicate an issue with either the GPU drivers or DirectX. Normally this is fixed by updating your GPU drivers. Are you playing on a laptop? If so, it's possible you have both an integrated (intel, etc) gpu and a dedicated one (nvidia). In that case make sure the game is using the dedicated one.

Nope, I'm on a desktop with RTX 3080 and latest NVidia drivers (downloaded and installed drivers yesterday)

Can you try forcing the game to launch in 1080p? You can change in the options after if it boot:

Add

-screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080

as a launch command through the game steam properties.

I ran into the same problem, CTD after the kowloon intro movie, running on 2070 super with 457.30 GRD. I found an older discussion with similar problem suggesting the SD (Studio Driver) instead of the GRD. I tried first with the older suggested 456.38 SD and managed to start playing the game, tried the 457.30 SD next and it still runs. I guess Spiritfarer does not like GRD drivers.

Thanks! I'd have to check the cause of the incompatibility. Might be fixed in a more recent version of Unity.

Any sign of a fix for this? Just happened to me after updating to the latest GRD, tried using the studio drivers and the same issue is occurring, now working my way back through previous releases to find the latest one that works.

No ETA on that. the only thing we could try would be rebuilding the game on the latest version of Unity. However this would probably trigger a massive patch as typically assets are not bundled the same way when doing that. For the moment we'd rather avoid that unless we are certain it would fix the problem.

Getting the same issue through PC GamePass. Hopefully it comes around.

I bought the game today and was able to access the menu the first time I opened it – but when I tried later to finally play, it stops working when the Thunder Lotus logo appears too. I thought it was some problem with my computer but I already tried everything that I could :/

The cause of your issue might be different. At this point the game is among other things loading your save game. Is it possible an anti-virus or something similar might be preventing that? You could try to see if this is the problem by:

a) Disable Steam Cloud Saves for the game
b) Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Thunder Lotus Games\Spiritfarer
c) Backup then delete the content except for the AutoSaves folder
d) Try to launch the game, if it works, use the Load Auto Save folder to restore your progress

If this does not work, the player.log file in the same folder might give me more information to help you. If you send it to me I can take a look at it.

Running on game pass here too btw, finally found older drivers that worked last week, tried to play again today and the same issue occurred (no driver changes between)

Gamepass PC is finicky beast. Beside the drivers, there is a few potential things that could cause those symptoms:

a) User is not logged in when launching the game
b) Necessary Gamepass services are not running (it should be automatic, but apparently sometime it isn't). Those would be

- Xbox Live Game Saves
- Xbox Live Network Services
