Surprisingly Good? Also a couple questions.
Really nice game actually, I was surprised at how cool it is by playing the demo even though it didn't sound as good on the store page. Then again I have all achievements in Osmos (read: hardcore absorbing blob enthusiast rofl).

I just have a couple of questions:

1 - Is the demo limited to "small star?" I absorbed enough planets and still couldn't become a medium star -_- . Or did I just fail somehow?

2 - How long does it take to complete all story and challenges if you're a pretty well-skilled blob-absorption-person?

I'd love to get this, but I'm on the fence and maybe waiting to get it in some indie bundle in the future :S .

you can complete it in a fairly quick time, and the demo is restricted but can't remember what to.

Its at 75% off and to me its definately worth it. Its one of those games that you can chill out and relax with I've found, you don't need 100% concentration which is nice to be found in a game. If you like the demo just get it. :-)

I beat the game in about 40min. Once you get to The Big Crunch you start over at 1 mass.
You'll find yourself going at it over and over and over again. For the price it is now, you can't strike a better deal.

You're right. The game is very good. Physics are only semi realistic, but it works very well and fun all together. I wish the creator (I think he posts here sometimes) would create part 3 with some cool features.

I beat it also relatively quickly.

I thought.

Then I checked stats and saw I only had completed 3% or 8% of the game I believe (can't remember). There is a lot more to this game than just the big crunch. There are missions and challenges. This could take a long time to finish 100%. Heck, one of the achievements is "Go from Big Bang to Big Crunch in under 20 minutes. No menu respawning."

I like the game so much I picked up another copy today for another family member's account. Really unique gameplay. I don't know of any other game that plays like this.

According to Steam I have played this game 8.8 hours and I have completed all the achievements. Considering how much fun I've had with it and that I bought it on a 75% sale I'd say it was worth it.

Note that reaching the Big Crunch (although one of the coolest features in the game) is by no means beating it. You "beat" the game (i.e. a proper playthrough) when you complete the story missions, which unlocks the actual ending, god mode options and "dark matter" mode (the game's nightmare/hardcore mode).

Steam tells me I spent about 8 hours completing story mode, most of the challenges, chasing some Steam achievements and messing around a bit in dark matter. And of course there's replayability left, building up more complex systems or whatnot. So there you have it, Citronvand above also mentioned 8h, so I guess that's some measure of length. Not an unreasonable duration for an indie title, and obviously more than your money's worth at 2 bucks with current sale.

Really liked this game.
According to Steam I have played it for 20 hours with all the achievements, although some friends played also around with it a bit.
It was nice firing it up for a little while and also playable the day after a drinking binge.

And don't rely on it being in a future bundle. The price right now is phenomenal.

The problem with this game is that near the end the missions become overly difficult and very obnoxious. Escort quests where stuff is thrown at you from all directions, loud techno music, really miserable. But this is not really much of a downer for me in a sandbox game. By the time I reached the bad missions, I'd had so much fun playing the game I didn't mind failing at completion.

To me the object of this game is to make the most impressive system you can, rule the roost for a while, and then behold your ultimate hubris downfall when some system you thought you could take down manages to tear you apart. Then rage kamikaze your last few suns into its remaining inhabited planets.

I'll note that other than the techno song I mentioned in one of the missions the music in this game is gorgeous and very appropriate both to the setting and the time scale.

Hell, just the big bang and big crunch effects are enough to make me sit in place for half an hour to watch the effects go off again. Story missions? Purely extras to back up the fun of sitting back and playing god with intergalactic heavenly bodies. Best price I've paid for a game in AGES!
