Report a translation problem
In essence, I focused on the Main Menu, New game screens, but there is still work to do. I completely revamped e2.xml, but I also reworked text in multiple other files.
The changelog has 30k characters. If anyone knows a good alternative for big changelogs, let me know please, thank you. A paragraph starts with "-" and the before/after text is split by a new line containing "changed to".

Is your translation aimed at people not familiar with the genre?
Uploaded Alpha v.0.05. Changelog is too big for Steam, if anyone is curious, I will upload all changelog files onto the Dropbox link at the bottom of the workshop mod page.
I am still focusing on the Main Menu and New game screens, this time I managed to rework the e1.xml file.
Changelog excerpt:
But I have also checked several dictionaries, googled and accessed a few online libraries in search of "cultivator" and "cultivation", trying to find patterns. I found NO dictionary, and I also have a couple of paper dictionaries at home, defining "cultivator", etc., as this game is supposed to.
For example searching cultivator in Google and forcing English only results will give you almost no, if no Xianxia related results in thousands of results. The first reaction of a person in a Western culture that sees the game title will be: "Wot, awesome, an agriculture game!".
I tried playing the game with Cultivator but for me it just doesn't click, it blocks the brain from apprehending a spiritual game because it's always connected to sowing, agriculture, etc. And I am not a guy having a hard time connecting with Chinese fantasy, until now at least :)) I also read about Taoism/Daoism, I enjoy reading about the Chinese culture, I played games involving China before, its religions, its history, etc.
Also, transcending/transcendence is a process that starts from scratch, so it doesn't require mastery, or high level of knowledge. It's a term that can also be used in countless situations, not limited to the spiritual side.
That is why I asked if your translation was aimed at a more general audience. The official translation makes perfect sense to those familiar with genre conventions but I can see how confusing it can be for the rest.
I admire your effort and wish you the best of luck.

Or this one (basically the same but more up to date it seems):

Changing individual elements is the easy job, the hard and time consuming part of my mod is and will be fixing English grammar errors, inconsistencies, like for example I am using "Capitals" in one situation, then in an identical situation I use "capitals", or phrases that outright have no sense in English, from start to the bottom, like the rationalizing Yaoguai thoughts which are an English "abomination", if I may joke :))
As another big sample of a huge mistake, English doesn't use Capitals mid sentence, it's not German. This game fails to follow this rule, which is not an optional English rule. The Germans do use capitals for a hell of a lot of situations and things. But not the English.
I am not judging anybody, I am doing this mod for myself because I really liked the game for the short time I played it, and I can't enjoy it with the current translation. I even own the game on Gog, I bought it there at first, and since I didn't have access to Workshop mods because the devs decided to lock them behind Steam game ownership, I had to buy it here too.
I read a lot of Xianxia and Wuxia novels over the years and mythology (not just Taoism) always interested me so I never really questioned esoteric wording much, just took it at face value knowing perfect translations cannot exist and instead tried to uncover what it's meaning is. Imo, translating too much might just change the meaning and intent of the original, it's why I'm not a fan of localization.
Personally idk what the problem with thoughts is tho. Also don't have a problem with mid-sentence capitalization; but well, I am German... (not that it's particularly rare for native English speakers to also capitalize nouns or even other words mid-sentence nowadays)
Also, devs don't lock mods on steam. Steam locks mods on Steam. If you needed a mod as a GoG player ask the mod devs, look on the discord and other mod repos or, if you're lucky use one of the few workshop downloaders that still work.
Regarding Steam mod downloads, there is an option for game developers to allow anonymous mod downloads. That's useful for developers publishing on multiple platforms who want to support all their customers. It works like this:
It's a developer choice, not a Steam choice. It doesn't affect me anymore tho, so...
- continuing the work on main menu, new game screens and elements.
- e1.xml "you you" to "you".
- Body_Features.xml done.
- Emotion_Features.xml done.
- Ls_Features.xml done.
- Stories.txt - partially done.
Excerpt:
I have added a few hundred/thousand changes meanwhile, but since the game has issues processing non vanilla path files, no use in updating the mod because some things will work, others won't.
EDIT
Found the solution. It seems I have to unsubscribe the public mod when I work on the local variant, else the game reads the public mod for some reason, even if it's deactivated. Back on track, update coming later this evening.
- moved to fixing the main text files.
- since 0.07, the log contains the name of the text files it edits together with the word "CHAPTER" with capitals, so you can search for specific files in logs. For example, this release edits stories.txt and codedictionary.txt, searching for CHAPTER will show you where it starts.
- Stories.txt - stopped full fixes at line 23, then stopped "title" fixing at 200064. Text is way too convoluted and full of grammar mistakes. Titles don't match the story, stories don't make sense or grammar is terrible, or all three. Given the size of the text, I am not going to waste my time on it for now.
- codedictionary.txt - work in progress.
Excerpt:
I added this on the workshop page too, but in case that you guys missed it, you need to UNSUBSCRIBE ALL other language mods from the workshop, beside this. Deactivating the other language mods is not good enough, there are some undocumented/less documented issues with deactivated mods that can affect subscribed/active mods, so better safe than sorry.
Cheers
- fixing the main text files.
- codedictionary.txt - work in progress.
- some fixed phrases will remain in alpha access until I see the ingame context.
- realization changed to various forms of understanding, depending on context.
