FAQs Stranded Sails
In the course of the announcements many new questions arose, which we've included in our general FAQ.

(1) GENERAL UPDATE FAQs

Is Stranded Sails a pure passion project?
Yes, it definitely is. We want to create something new and provide players with a most enjoyable gaming experience. With Lemonbomb as our developer, we have a creative and ambitious partner with whom we want to implement completely new game projects like Stranded Sails.

Is the game buy-to-play or free-to-play?
The game is absolutely buy-to-play. There are no hidden pay-to-win mechanics or microtransactions as well as lootboxes.

Will the game have potential romance / marriage options?
No, there's no romance or marriage in the game. The main focus of our survival adventure is on the story and the final goal, not on the relationships between the characters. You have to make sure that your crew is happy and well-fed so that they actively support you, for example in farming. This is important because you will always be in an active story quest.

How far can you go in doing stuff like farming?
Farming is important on the remote islands to ensure survival and satisfaction of the crew in the camp. There are different plants to cultivate and by exploring you will discover new seeds. However, the game does not focus solely on farming as we’ll send you on various adventurous explorations and quests!

Are there animals on the farm? Can I have pets to play with?
There are no livestock and no pets to play with.

How far can you go in doing stuff like building?
You are ship-wrecked on a mysterious archipelago and now it’s up to you to build a survival camp consisting of a cooking and crafting station, shacks for your crew or fields to farm crops. In the course of the game, you can expand your environment in the given context.

All I saw from the trailer is a little bit of farming and traveling by a boat. I can’t tell much from that!
The game is a mixture of farming and adventure. Our goal is to create as diverse a gameplay experience as possible, both exciting and relaxing. As a counterbalance to “relaxed” farming there are extensive adventures with exciting explorations, tricky puzzles and quests. In addition, exploration is one of the core gameplay loops that enables progression in the farming loop and vice versa. We are currently in the pre-alpha phase. So far we have only released one teaser. With the next trailer you’ll see more… So stay tuned!

Will this game have combat?
Outside the survival camp adventurous explorations and and quests await you as well as strange threats. Combat is a part of the game, it will be simple and fun. Are you ready to awaken the adventurer inside?

Is there going to be a stamina or schedule system that limits what you can do in a day?
Yes! There is a day and night rhythm with action and recovery phases. These phases must not be observed but it is encouraged by mechanics that it is done because it allows a more efficient energy balance. In addition, cooking plays a major role as your energy status will increase or decrease at different rates depending on your diet.

Are there ways to make farming more efficient?
Yes, there will be ways to make farming (e.g. watering) more efficient in the course of the game.

Is there going to be a coop mode?
The game is released without coop mode, because we want to create the most enjoyable singleplayer experience (we can provide). How about? Are you in?

Will there be Steam Achievements?
YES!

What platforms will the game be available on?
The game will be released in Q4 2019 via Steam for PC and Mac. A Nintendo Switch release will follow. Other platforms are to be discussed.

Will there be gender options?
You may choose whether you want to play the son or the daughter of the captain. So there definitely is a gender option.

Will there be character creation or customization?
You are ship-wrecked on a remote group of islands. Unfortunately, all your clothes got lost. What you wear on your body is all you have. Well, consequently the fashion show takes place somewhere on the bottom of the sea without you. A small consolation, however, remains. There are different hats you can wear. You get the hats as a reward for various quests. We hope hats look good on you.

How close is the game to My Time at Portia?
It is difficult to draw an exact line as to how similar both games are, as each game has its own charm. We are sure that players of My Time at Portia will enjoy Stranded Sails and will appreciate the differences. For instance, the settings of both games are quite different. In Stranded Sails you ship-wreck on a mysterious archipelago. Farming, fishing and exploring are crucial to survive and to find a way home.

How close is the game to Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley?
The game sets sail for a new gaming experience fusing adventure and farming. Thus farming is only a partial aspect of the game. By combining adventure and farming elements we create a world in which your achievements in a certain area will unlock new possibilities in another one.

Does the game have a deep crafting system?
The crafting system is rather simple or rudimentary. It is mainly used to turn found items into items needed for quests or for camp expansion. In addition, we have devised other methods for obtaining upgrades, such as an improved bucket that waters multiple plants at the same time.

Can you play indefinitely or is there some rescue or leaving the island event, and then game over?
Our intention is for the player to decide for himself when to leave the island. You can either quit the game or continue to find treasure maps on the island and farm comfortably. Then you just stay a little longer on the island. We still have to determine the game duration in the beta test. Please be patient.

How will saving be handled in the game?
The game has an automatic saving system that saves everything you do, you don't have to take care of anything when it comes to saving. This way, in case of a crash or another interruption, not more than a few seconds of game time should be lost!

Will the controls be wasd or mouse movement?
You have three options for motion control: wasd, mouse or controller. We hope you like the choice.

How can the community support the game and the development team?
We are looking forward to any kind of support. Chat with us on Discord {LINK REMOVED} or follow us on Twitter {LINK REMOVED}. Help us to make the game known in different communities!

How can we give you feedback?
The best way to reach us is via Discord. We cordially invite you to chat with us and the developers and a wonderful community.

(2) YOUR QUESTION REGARDING DEMO VERSION

Will there be a demo version?
Yes, we will release a demo version. We will send the demo version to all our subscribers who weren't be able to join us as beta testers. It will provide more insights into the game! More on that in our next newsletter. Are interested in a free demo version? Subcribe to our mailing list at https://rokapublish.us15.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=4f725dfd794f834c7ce3d26f7&id=00ab2a3bec

(3) YOUR QUESTIONS REGARDING BETA TESTING

How do I become a beta tester?
The closed beta for Stranded Sails is already done. If you are interested in future beta testings, please put your name on our mailing list at www.rokapublish.com or https://rokapublish.us15.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=4f725dfd794f834c7ce3d26f7&id=00ab2a3bec. The list is guaranteed 100 percent spam free and helps us to keep an eye on all test requests.

What is the beta testing in general about?
We need your help by playing and testing the current beta version of the game. If you find a bug or other discrepancies, please let us know so we can polish and fix them. Your feedback is very valuable to us as it is very realistic and reflects the wishes of the players. Please note when testing: It's not the final version and everything can still change!

Am I allowed to publish any material of the closed beta (e.g. screen shots, spoiler, videos or hostings streams or other) ?
We trust you to refrain from any kind of release during closed beta testing. Why? In the beta stage, our game will still have some bugs and other issues to work through. We want discussions about these issues to remain private to avoid having them affect how our final release version is received. Especially, since these issues will be resolved by the time of
the game's release. Thanks for your understanding!

If you have any further questions, we will be happy to answer them. :steamhappy:

What I want to know is how close is it to My Time at Portia?

Obviously it doesn't have the marriage/romance/friending/pets angle, but the cooking, fishing, and adventure/exploration are there. More specifically, does it have a deep crafting system or will I exhaust things to craft after 10 hours of play (what is the expected play time)? Also, can you play indefinitely or is there some rescue or leaving the island event, and then game over?

Thanks for the response!
So why does the game have the 'female protaganist' tag? The written description says you play a 'son' which generally are considered male. :P

Is the tag in error or will there be gender options?
The tags can be assigned by anyone - someone probably saw the video and assumed the character was female.

Hi Cutlass Jack,
You may choose whether you want to play the son or the daughter of the captain. So there definitely is a gender option.
How will saving the game be handled?
Any time?
Will the game have safepoints?
Quicksave options
Saving when closing the game
or only 'daily' saving when the character goes to rest for the day?

I am asking because one game I am playing only has the last one (daily saving) and that is very annoying whenever progress is lost due to crashes or bugs.

Hi worstcase11,
Thank you for your question. I will include it in our offical FAQ.

The game has an automatic saving system that saves everything you do, you don't have to take care of anything when it comes to saving. This way, in case of a crash or another interruption, not more than a few seconds of game time should be lost!

I hope we can help you with that answer.

Kerstin
@rokagirl: Thanks! I gotta say that version of autosaving is a big plus for the game in my opinion.
