System requirements?
I cannot quite understand how an adventure game from an independent developer would require 51GB of storage space. Like, why?

I’ll give a bit in-depth explanation here:

One of the biggest graphical challenges in development was the texture load. Due to fact that all objects in the game are photogrammetry scans from real world objects, we have tons of unique textures. Texture tiling and other tricks that games use are not present in our game.

To handle all these huge textures, we use a technology called virtual texturing. Therefore, we have one scene that manages most of the textures we have ingame. Based on the current camera distance, the system will automatically load the texture at the necessary size. But that also means, even if the later levels are not included in the demo, their textures still are. This also means that the final game will not be much bigger than the demo, since textures take up most of the space. (It will be around 60GB)

To gain a smaller size, we experimented with removing the most detailed texture mip maps from the build, which reduced the size significantly. On the flipside, we also lost quality in the visuals. So much that we decided against that approach to show the game in it’s full quality also in the demo.

Dear developers,

If you ever read this, I would like to share that I cannot play something I cannot fit on my HDD, and it does not matter how fancy the textures are. If the game were 5GB and heavily pixelated with the interactive objects highlighted, I would have at least tried it. Splitting the high-res textures into a free DLC and providing the base download of a more reasonable size would have made this significantly more appealing for me personally.

I suppose, I would have been quite upset if I did not receive Harold Halibut as a part of a bundle with a half of it going to a charity (I do appreciate you participating in it) and other titles (such as a management RPG with 1.3GB download size) being the motivation behind the purchase. As is, I am just vaguely annoyed that I did not check the system requirements before activating the key, as someone else might have enjoyed it.

You could delete the Porn Collection from your HDD, then it should fit. :cozybethesda:
Having been into PCs for over 30 yrs, Storage is cheap and is the first thing you get right when owning a PC next to RAM.
You are obviously very new to this phenomenon.

I have 3 storage devices on my PC, totalling 9TB. They are nearly full due to me having games like Mass Effect,TSW and DLC going over 174GB and tons more. BG3 is 148GB, Final Fantasy 16 151GB

It's your problem it cannot fit on your HDD, not the game. YOUR the one with the PC NOT the game.
Again system specs are on the store page and NOBODY reads them then blames everyone else. What on earth has happened to people regressing....take responsibility for yourself for once and stop passing the buck.

As mentioned, I bought Harold Halibut in a bundle, with other games with more reasonable requirements and the charity donation being the main appeal, and I do acknowledge that I should have read the requirements before activating the key.

However, neither of these things change that 50GB for a point and click adventure game are ridiculous, hence the feedback. As cannot review the game without running for at least 5 minutes, a forum post is a suitable alternative.

Alas, my rich and artistic Porn Collection is in the pixel art style, so it is significantly more appealing in every way to keep around permanently.

Ok, fair point.
