Workers require new orders every turn since Nov patch
Workers wake up every turn, like they are supposed to do when threatened by an enemy, but they do it whether or not there are any enemies around. A 32 turn improvement requires you to issue the order 32 times, once for every turn. When you got a few workers doing improvements the game is basically unplayable.

This bug starts when a worker is exposed to an enemy unit for the first time, or is moved onto territory that used to belong to an enemy (even an extinct enemy). Once started, the bug lasts forever.

The good news is CIV 4 still works fine.

Yes, I have this exact same bug. It only happens with "regular" enemies, not barbarians. One more note: it seems to be about zones of control, so it applies even if a tile was only traversed by an enemy, the effects last the entire game??!!?

I have the same problem, the game is unplayable with this bug.

I was dismayed upon discovering this today. I had great start and a succesful early war against Caesar only to find that every one of his captured workers (about 7 in total) need to be reminded of thier orders every turm. This forced me to quit playing as I could not see the medieval to fututre era being any fun while having to constantly remind 20 what they are doing. Here's hoping they fix this bug soon because until then my much enjoyed Sunday civ session will be put on hiatus.

I have the same problem. "Workaround": if you set the worker to automate, it will stop bothering you, but then you are forced to deal with the consequences of having all your workers set to automate. The game is unplayable if you use workers and they are not set to automate.

It seems like this only happens to me when an enemy is nearvy...the worker stops and needs restarting. I thought it was supposed to behave that way. I'll have to pay closer attention to this.

Today the new patch installed itself and now I have the same problem with my workers. Also, the game got really slow after I bombarded a barbarian camp with a ship. The game is unplayable like this! Is there no way to uninstall this patch?

Uninstall the game and reinstall it.. making sure that you don't have the game set to update. You may find that it could.. I say could.... help you. So far it is working ok for me [with the new "hotpatch"] I unistalled that last big patch that caused so many problems and also set my game not to update.
I got the new "hotpatch" loaded today and now I'm getting crashes every 15-20 turns whereas before it was about 5turns and also freezing etc. Now if it crashes it may be due to Mods so I need to check online for that one. At least the game is, to a degree, now playable for me. I also save at the end of every turn as it's tedious having to redo everything again if it does crash.
Fortunately I don't have that issue with the workes that you and jpfarmer01 have though.
My workers are all ok... for now!
I hope it doesn't happen to me as that does sound like a real pain.

When I annex cities, my automated workers will not improve nearby tiles. I can command them manually, but I have to repeat the commands every turn, even if it's a multiple-turn command.

Captured workers will not do anything but sit in the city if they are automated.

Heck i would be grateful for workers that improved tiles under automate. Mine just run to the nearest city and just sit even though there are tons of improvements to be made. No there are no babrbarians or enemies anywhere close and yes I also mean the 3 space rule from the patch. this really makes the game close to being too much trouble to play for me personally.

I buyed this game (+ add on) on the holiday sale and ever since then I'm only obtaining problems. Every now and then I get a render error (I've updatet all my drivers, tried different solutions like setting fog of war and leaders to minimum etc.). Couldn't find any kind of pattern, it seems totally random. I also got the worker bug every now and then. After some research it looks like the game is totaly unplayable for a lot of people since the november patch. It's kinda anoying, nearly 3 months and no progress? Are there at least some news, if 2k is working on the problems?
Would love to play the game, but right now it's like russian roulette with a submachine gun.

Same problem as stated above on Jan 16th. Game is not unplayable but it has hendered the experiance greatly. Fraxis and Steam need to get on this ASAP and fix this bug. It is making the game frustrating over long play throughs.

I have been having this problem since the big patch on 11/1/2012. I have reported it directly to 2K support, which is the only way to get any action on this, or any issue with Civ 5. Also, there is no help on any issue with Civ 5 on this forum. The place to go to get any help from other users is to go to the forum via (the home page has a tab for "forum").

I'm not sure, but it seems to happen when there is another tile that has been "recomended" for improvement. It's like it's saying, "I think doing work over here would be better". It's frustrating, though.
darthmangafee Jan 21, 2013 @ 10:35pm
If you station a military unit over the worker it'll build without having to reissue the command. It's a workaround but they do need to fix it. It gets annoying having to pull infantry from a city I am otherwise trying to protect.

edit: It always happens when a war is started. It'll stay that way after the war is over, but if you start another war it'll sometimes go away (giving you new sectors of 'conflict' tiles you have to mind). It seems to happen on ground that was/is going to be traversed by enemy units.

last edit: I just played today and I do believe there must have been some sort of patch because the glitch no longer occurs. Yay!
