i kinda dont understand ballista. why cant it hold multiple target
i get why it needs tropy to aim, like it nees to know what to shoot and what is not. its like a balance of collecting and keeping throphies to use it,but i dont get why you cant set multiple target into it.

it kinda feel sad to use, because now you have like... what? 4 ballista protecting a spot to make sure the biome is safe without aiming at you? and heres the fun part.
after beating a boss or two you will be hunted by eemies outside of said biomes, like ones from plains, swamp, you name em.
as for crafting and its value, its still pretty balanced since you cant teleport springs from portals to build em, you actually need to be there and craft em with metals n everything.

but the... bizzare nature of Only able to hold one target is weird, because if its not holding one it can shoot everything thats moving.

is there a way to do this without breaking and replacing? my ballista placement is rather crammed on something else
Just use a trophy on it to set target and later use the same trophy again to set the target back to everything.

The easiest - imho - solution to that:

Don't put a trophy in it, but just don't load it with bolts until a raid happens.
If you've positioned the balistae well, they won't fire inside your base at all.
So the only thing you need to do is load the buggers the moment the raid happens, wait for the raid to finish, unload them and collect the loot.

Only disadvantage, I found them quite slow to aim and shoot at drakes, so you may consider to back the ballistae up with your own archery skills. And ignore them for bats; as those are doing light speed, compared to how fast your ballistae are. Wacking bats out of the air is more fun and most certainly a lot more effective.

its fine as is. just leave it on shoot everything and don't stand in front of it unless you want to power level block. I haven't tried it but I imagine 4 of these might be interesting on yag, maybe moder... if you can keep them from being wrecked.

Balance in games is good for most people, makes the games more entertaining. Ballistas are functional and effective as they are, not OP which they would be if they were changed to OP's and many other's suggestion.

There are other ways to adjust difficulty and raids. Better than screwing with the ballistas. Changes are ofc fine, just not "make this more effective with no drawbacks".

I do think it would be better if instead of being able to designate 1 specific target we could disable say 3 specific targets and let them shoot at everything else. And of course include a human trophy to exclude yourself if so desired.

oh thanks, thats kinda fix things up for me

Ballista is useless because of it's point blank range... I hope this is fixed, my dream of AA towers was destroyed by their's short range

I just block or run to go past mine. You can turn them off with a trophy, but its only gonna waste 1 shot at you at most, if you just zerk by.

at the very least lettingg it target the species of mobs... put a greydraw in there... targets only greydwarves.... not just that single type. That is no unbalancing.

yep, i totally agree. Lame that it can't have more than one target unless you're included. makes for clunky aesthetics like having a ton of absurd chests just cluttering the hell out of your base. design needs changed. barrels have been a awesome clutter reduction/aesthetic boost but the black metal chests are ungodly large. hopefully in deep north we get some reasonably sized storage options with adequate space. something magical or what not of course.

oh and for what it's worth, it won't be useful in most circumstance but i just have my base with some ballista up top targetting trolls to keep them from trashing any trees or whatever in the area, and then i have ballista set on a different level to deal with any charred marksman. tho, this is super niche since my base is built inside of a 40x40 wall so raids don't have room to spawn within. but food for thought maybe. just having the troll ballista take care of charred marksman and trolls as well would be the most ideal situation though by far
