Nostalgia plays a massive role and I doubt you will find many people that think older games are better than new ones if they didn't play the game around the time it was released.
Tripple A games usually always get better the longer a development team is working on an IP, but is Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 3 or Dragon Age 2 better than the ones that came before?
Great game, but it lacks some of the best features of the other two. In both Bioshock and Bioshock 2, the fights were much more tactical, you needed to set traps, combine plasmids and guns with the environment, choose the correct guns and the correct ammo to fight the enemies, hack turrets, bots and vending machines while in combat.
Infinite kinda lost most of it, unless you're playing 1999 mode, you can just blast your way through with the super powerfull vigors, with Elizabeth always giving you health, ammo, salts. Excluding a very few particular fights, you barely need strategy to play Infinite.
You also don't have the moral choices any more (save or harvest the little sisters), the multiple endings based on your choices through the game, the creepy and disturbed environments of Rapture fit so well with the dark and mature atmosphere of the game. Doesn't matter how I look, I can't see how Infinite can be more remarkable than the first two Bioshocks.
BS:Infinites story was just week and although the combat was good it got less interesting since the last game despite the new fetures.
Lots of plp like it cause its flashy and they cant see past that. Theres nothing wrong with flashy every game needs a little TADAAA, but Infinite seems to cover its flaws with bright lights and shiny things.
Plus the storys actualy pritty lame. Its realy clutterd. Though told in an interesting and twisted way its still simple and kinda a huge downer. Started well but... id have to spoil it.
The ilusion of grandeur and beauty is brought on by(admittedly beautifull) zones and long narratives that references religion, politics and older BS games.
Its just another one of these more modern games that appears to apeal to the more magpie esque gamers out there.
PS: I noticed after the fact that i called Bioshock BS for short... just so we are clear i do mean Bio shock. ^_^
Bioshock 2 - unoriginal story but really good gameplay
Bioshock infinite - meh gameplay but the best story of the lot
I thought Elizabeth was well done, though. She could have easily been the most annoying tag-a-long “protect your mascot” character in the game, but she was handled with humour and gameplay that made her useful in a fight as opposed to a liability.
I believe it was said Fink (I think?) came up with vigors when he saw the plasmids of Rapture through a tear.
this guy basically summed up the things i didnt like about infinite.i like it but WOW it's really dissapointing when compared to 1
