Possible low sound fix
Hi just got my copy of Bioshock 2 DVD on to steam. Now for the people that bought Bioshock steam free and still have the orginal disc install this side by side the steam install. Go into the original DVD version and got to the SP part of it and copy the windows sound folder over you steam version. Also get rid of the dsound.ini and dsound.dll in the SP\content folder copy over the configini.ibf and content.ini and the localized.lbf file. See if that works I think the gun sounds are a bit louder now and I can hear delta walking.

I tried this and can confirm it works. I had the issue with the weapon sounds being much quieter than any other sounds, but after doing this they sound normal (at least louder than before). Though this only works for the original game, not the DLC since you're replacing / missing some of those files.

If someone bothered to check out which files exactly need to be replaced with the older files you could possibly create a fanmade "patch" to fix this problem. The backup copy of the entire sound directory is over 1gb, and I'm not sure 2K would be too happy if anyone uploaded such a file (so people could quickly fix this problem that THEY should have fixed ages ago). Installing the original game from the DVD also installs GFWL and Securom so remember to remove those if you bother to go through this. Or maybe someone could notify 2K of this and they would bother to fix it (not likely to happen).

I narrowed it down to a single file, ConfigINI.IBF. If you override that file with the one from v1.0 (installed from the original DVD), the quiet gun sound problem is fixed. I haven't tested if replacing the file with the old one affects the DLC, but I would assume it does. So I would use it only for the core game, and return the latest version of the file when you play the DLC.

Anyway you could upload that file?
