Claire ‘A’ - Mr X & have I ruined my playthrough? [Spoilers]
First time playthrough.

Thought I was doing well conserving ammo until I panicked & unloaded too many rounds on WB. Then wasted the rest thinking I could stop Mr. X for longer when he chased me into the main hall, like you could ground him temporarily in the ‘98 version(as in, could walk leisurely around the station for maybe 10 mins each time after downing him).

To make matters worse I didn’t use boards wisely and West Wing/corridor is now infested with zombies/lickers then X. It’s literally blind luck getting past this area.

I managed to do the clock tower puzzle & got the second electronic part for Chief Irons’ door. But I have no ammo left and cannot make it back to the East end after endless attempts.

Qs:
i) Is it over for this playthrough?
ii) Does X ever stop chasing during Claire A? Stalker mechanic is great and all, but there’s only so much fun in running around a RE game like a survival horror episode of Benny Hill. It’s already got old for me and just want to know if this relentless chasing is set for the rest of the game non stop
iii) Does walking/‘stealth’ really make a difference in stopping X relentlessly following you? I couldn’t shake him no matter what I tried

Would like to get past this out of determination - kind of lost any fun at this point, thanks in advance.

It's been quite sometime since I've played RE2R, but if you wish and Mr.x isn't fun for you, there is mods to disable him.

Thanks. That would be a last resort, but if endless Mr. X chases remain constant from police station to end of the game, I’ll do it.

For Claire, Mr X will soon disappear. It’s closer than you think!

Nope. From the clock tower door you can go straight ahead to the corridor, open the door and down the stairs do Chief's room. Theres a storage and you can get both eletronic parts and start Sherry campaign [/quote]

X stop chasing you after you leave RPD from the first time on Claire A

Makes no difference whatsoever. But X gets close to you really fast if you fire your gun anywhere.

Hope it helps. :dragon2:

Welcome to Resident Evil 2 Remake! It's a very awesome game with lots of replay-ability.
I understand your frustration with Mr X. My very first play through with ZERO guides whatsoever took me over 9 hours and 40 something min and dealing with Mr X had my heart in my gut ( almost in my ass) most of the time. Now I have S+ rankings in all scenarios on Standard and Hardcore. I truly understand your frustration with Mr. X and your frustration with the west hall way with lickers and the zombies.

There are safe areas to get away from him and he's also pretty easy to kite once you put some distance between you and Mr X. All safe areas are the small rooms with typewriters in them, STARS office AND the clock tower room on the 3rd floor. One thing for sure is to NEVER waste any ammo of this guy. Through my S+ routes I use only ONE flash bang on him when he first appears on either scenario so I can put some really good distance between him and I, and never use anything else on him throughout the entire scenario I'm playing.

The west hall nightmare is a nightmare. If you don't board up the window while the zombie is tumbling out of it during your second time venturing down the west hallway then the next time ( which should be your third and last) you have to venture down here with the club key you will have serious trouble. Dealing with lickers is very easy, just walk it out. Just...walk...it..out. Only problem is when Mr X is right there on your ass. RNG-Gods can be cruel. Having that window boarded up will help tremendously coming out of Club Key room with the jack for the library. That window boarded eliminates zombies being there and once you enter that room and come out the licker should despawn further down the hallway away from the door that leads to the mainhall. The door you should be going with that jack in hand to reach the second floor library. Avoid that hallway at all costs. Only three times you should ever head there. Right in the beginning, right after you get the bolt cutters, and after you get the club key.

If I was you I would restart all over if you have written down all the safe codes, statue codes, locker codes, and etc. Any ammo and sub-weapons used on Mr X is a waste and can hinder your game play. If you are on Hardcore I would DEFINITELY restart. It's a great game and once you continuously play the scenarios you will develop a route and know whats a waste of time and what isn't. In about 20 min I have all three medallions and Im already heading to first boss when Im doing my S+ rank routes and Im out of the police station entirely in less than an hour. Keep practicing. The game is awesome. Mr X becomes a lil b**ch once you know how to handle him. It's just Papa John's chasing you after so many times playing this game LMAO!

Don't let Papa Johns ruin your fun! :steammocking:

Thanks all for responses.

Escaped to Irons’ room and managed to get to the car park.

Had to endure several failed attempts in the Orphanage shortly afterwards, but things seem to be OK for now.

The only way to ruin a playthru is to waste too much ammo in the beginning. There're two ways of getting good at Res2RE. The first way is to watch other ppls games. Speedruns help at identifying the best routes to take so you're not treading water. The other way is to just screw it up a bunch.

What helped me the most was identifying what areas needed clearing and which ones could be managed by wounding/dismembering. For example, that hall way on the west side that leads to the office/weapons lockers/safe room/stairs is an area I like to clear out as I'll be coming back and I know Lickers will eventually spawn there.
I avoid using pistols on zombies where I can. It's better to use pistols on bosses with those vulnerable zones/eyes that can be shot out. Don't worry too much with first Birkin as a full stack of pistol ammo will take him out even if you're not concentrating on his weakspot.
As Claire, I use GL flame rounds for Zombies I need dead. Making sure I can craft plenty of acid rounds for later bosses. It's also worth noting that Claire's acid rounds will stagger those Lickers so if you're in a pinch they'll buy you some time to run away. Lickers really are the worst.

Leon has the shotgun which is by far the best weapon for zombies. Again, save his pistol for the first boss and weak stuff. Use shotgun to deal with tricky zombies.

Mr X will become less and less of a drag the more you play.

Congrats on making it to the sewers. I think the A scenario gets way less claustrophobic once you've gotten out of the parking lot. You should now be able to explore RPD without X chasing you so go and get all those items!
