RE2 Crashing Constantly - Fatal Application Exit "GPU will not respond to more Commands"
My RE2 keeps crashing and when I played this game in November of 2019 it never gave me this issue. I'll attach an image of the message but here are my specs : GTX 970, i5 4690K, 16 GB ram. I also am running all of this on Windows 10. I have gone through and tried downclocking my GPU but that hasn't fixed it for me. I validated my game files but the issue still persists. If anyone has any ideas as for how to fix it please let me know, trying to enjoy this masterpiece of a game without it crashing every 7 minutes.

Well I can't paste the image onto here but here is the error message : "The GPU will not respond to more commands, most likely because of an invalid command passed by the calling application."

I'm having the same issue. Game crashes when I get to the police station and try to use the typewriter or inspect the electric switch.

Revert drivers to 457.51. Its the 460+ that broke it.

I had something similar, this is what worked for me. (I'm using windows 10)

1. Right click the game in your library
2. Click properties
3. Click Local Files
4. Click Browse...
5. Find and open re2_config (It might ask you what to open with, I chose notepad)
6. Under [Render] change all DirectX11 to DirectX12
7. Save and close then launch the game

If you're still having problems, under [Render] change all Disable to Enable (No space)
or
under [RenderConfig] find PCWindowMode=1 make sure it's set to 1 (Makes the game fullscreen), save and close then launch the game

I was having the "Fatal Application Exit" message and crash as well in game. I switched from DX11 to DX12 in the graphics menu and it seemed to have solved my issued. Even though DX12 is a hot mess with lower frames per second and bugs at times, I am now able to play without the error message and crash. Good luck!

I would get the "Fatal Application Exit" message when I would skip a cutscene. I followed what Sir Potato posted and it fixed my issue.

UPDATE : I found what Khaine said to work, note that other solutions posted may also work. I reverted my drivers back to the said version and no longer have issues with my game. Try this solution if you have a GTX 900 series as I think this is a shared issue amongst those cards otherwise try another solution. Reverting the drivers is easy btw just look up the process, plenty of videos online.

Running as administrator and changing it to direct x 12 worked for me

I got my game to work just by bumping DX11 to DX12 in the game options

I have a 900 series Nvidia GPU and can confirm that rolling the drivers back fixed this issue for me. game never had a problem before the new drivers. rolled back to 457.30 if anybody has a 900 series and is having the same problem

I can not thank you enough for your tips here.
After playing it without any kind of problem during the last year, I tried to start a new game yesterday only to have it crashing down with this error message. I tried everything (even reinstalling the game, but nothing worked).

If it's of any use to anyone, I went first with the option of installing the 457.51 driver for my GeForce, and it worked perfectly.
Now for some reason I get an error message when I'm exiting the game, and it crashes there, but... well, it only happens when I'm closing the game anyway, so it pretty much doesn't have any consequences.

I've been having the exact same problem. The only thing that works is switching to DirectX 12 or reverting down to Nvidia Driver 457.30. DirectX12 causes severe framedrops so I decided to drop my driver down for the time being.

Exactly the same with me. The game crashed when I apdated nvidia drivers in gtx960, when I turned back the update the game came back normal.

This needs to be pinned on top of the forum, the config ini edit saved me from having to refund that game.
