Development Report: Announcement of Beta Code Release 2025/12/10 18:08
Development Report: Announcement of Beta Code Release 2025/12/10 18:08

To commemorate ARIKA’s 30th anniversary, we revised the price of “FIGHTING EX LAYER.”
Additionally, as another 30th-anniversary initiative?limited to the Steam version?we’ve made the festive build that was playable on PS5 at “EVO Japan 2023” available to Steam purchasers via a Steam beta code.

However, because the PS5 build did not allow individual configuration of settings such as interface (input/output devices), resolution, or vertical sync?and we’ve essentially made that build run as-is on Steam?your experience may vary depending on your environment. We ask for your understanding.

There are no plans to expand this beta version in the future. Thank you for your understanding.

Lastly, we would like to thank Mr. Oda and Mr. Kuroki at SNK for graciously approving Terry Bogard’s appearance.

Right before publishing the code, we discovered a bug where, during CPU matches, the CPU “walks” in the air when air-guarding. We decided to pretend we didn’t see it and proceed with the code release.

Beta Code: 8kV4N9OrtoMR

If you go to your library and find Fighting EX Layer, you can right-click on it and select Properties. There should be a popup showing up, select "Betas" from the menu on the left. There should now be an input field where you can paste the following code "8kV4N9OrtoMR" (without the quotation marks).
After doing so, there should be a new option available on the dropdown above where you can select the beta version "202510 - 30th β test". Note that this will replace your current version of the game. If you want to revert back, just select the other option on the same dropdown menu where you selected the beta and this should give you back the current version of FEXL.

It's definitely rough, but it's very much appreciated that we have the chance to play this at all. Thank you for your hard work!

Not at home so i will not be a 100% accurate but it should be right click the game in the library, a window will pop click "betas" and there should be a textfield paste the code and it will be available to download

Betas change the content of the game and will have to download some things whenever you swap versions keep that in mind

Arika is Another Dash ever making it to PC?

So will we ever get a new version of EX Layer? Maybe a sequel? Or perhaps another crossover with Capcom? I really don't want to see these awesome characters waste away for another decade. I want to see their stories expanded upon! And maybe get the characters stuck in Fighting Layer too! Or maybe you could get a character into SF6 or Fatal Fury City of the Wolves!

From what I've played, A FREAKIN LOT! For starters, there's no gougi system. Instead, its all based on a few set mechanics like in Another Dash for the switch. You can guard cancel, burst out of combos, and even launch your opponent into the air to follow up with aerial attacks kinda like marvel vs capcom. And probably the biggest change is that now you can side step into the background and the foreground kinda like you could in the og Fighting Layer.

Also, there's an almost blinding amount of effects when attacks hit. I feel it will definitely hurt your computer at the beginning but it will mellow eventually. At least mine did.

And finally(and sadly), you can only play and fight against Allen or Terry.

ARIKA, Is there a chance you can bring Another Dash to the PC?

I have played it and the differences in gameplay are so significant that it's essentially almost a different game and would be worth having. I really appreciate the effort you put into changing up the gameplay to create a whole new experience.

ARIKA, we need a new version for NINTENDO SWITCH 2!

I tried to go back to the original after trying out the beta and it wont launch, crashes on start up everytime.
Tried updating the drivers, deleting save files, etc and no luck.
I was enjoying the game before hand with no issues, not sure if it's related to the beta.

It's simple, friend. All you do is copy the code like you would copy any other text. Go to the game's properties and look for the "betas" option. When you select it there should be a box for entering beta codes. Paste the code there and it should work.
Also, you can switch between the beta and the normal version on the game's launcher. Hope this helps!

Anybody know where the config folder for the beta is located? Since it doesn't have an options menu I can change my settings in [like in the base game], I was hoping to get into the config files and change em myself.
I'M PLAYIN' AT 4 FPS FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!!
Thanks in advance.

On one hand I'm happy to finally get to play this, on the other hand I'm sad it's cancelled because I'd pay good money for this as it fixes all my problems with the game! I don't like base FEXL because of the Gougis and I hate Another Dash because I have to spend meter to run (and my big beef with SFEX is the inability to run or dash turning that game into a hoppy mess)!

It's like "Hey! We finally got it right and made an amazing fighting game! Lets not release it!"

If the fine folks at Arika ever read this, please consider a new FEXL release sometime in the future.
