Oh yeah totally. I'm not complaining about having choice with skate games :D Makes a nice change to be able to pick from a couple.
or thugpro. its a tony hawk mod that combines all the games maps and has multiplayer.
its still alive today if you are interested.

Just played a bit of this THUGPRO and not only am I overwhelmed, but I remember nothing about how THPS plays. In my 20min playing this, I smashed my face on the ground more times than I did in Session in my +30h
I gotta learn this tho. I'm very intrigued despite the graphics. I actually find them to be quite charming.
I gotta say though, playing this for a bit I don't understand how some people can be so ignorant as to say Session is a THPS clone. From playing Session and actually trying to learn trick names and observe how they're executed, I noticed the way we control the sticks really is similar to how the feet move to control the board and whatnot. Goes to show how biased some people are 🤦🏻♂️
Yea the controls are so accurate that I bet even though you don't skate, if you stepped on a skateboard , you could probly do an ollie or a shove it just given your amount of experience from session.
do you have a friend that skates to try his board and test out this hypothesis? lol
And no, unfortunately 😂 My father had a bunch of skateboards when I was a kid, but I haven't spoken to him in years.
I feel like it's less of a question of what IS better, but what will most likely BE better. Skater XL for the longest time had mixed reviews on account of its lack of content and polish. Despite that, it just got released to 1.0 and has gotten poor reviews by IGN and some Steam users as a result of its still lacking content. Totally imo I think they just wanted to get it released already due to the butthurt. Session is already very comparable to SXL and shows no signs of leaving early access any time soon. Assuming its development continues like how it has been, there's little doubt in my mind that it will eventually become a much more polished and full experience than SXL, and that's not even to mention (like how others have) that it is already aiming to be a much more ambitious experience than SXL, which isn't going for much more than a simple singleplayer skating sim.
That's not even to mention how it's literally only half the price for what is very likely to be much more content.
so, which one?
SXL for some quick fun lines, a metric crap-ton of maps (some really...meh...some so fire, they made it in the official release and the dude now works for EDS)
add mods and you can adjust about anything...and adding said mods doesn´t require much knowledge, just the PC version...shouldn´t have put it on sale for the consoleros without those already built in
Music selection has a wider variety, but that´s personal preference and after many hours, most will turn it off anyways
I haven´t touched Session in a long time, got kinda fed up with trying and trying and trying...if I want that, I got a real board :p
there seems to be little progress, now reworking the whole physics etc.
hmmm...not sure what will come of this
the controls...yes, I know I could customize them, but out of the box, Session feels much more unaccessible and I fear some will drop the game at this point, not even trying to fiddle about with a custom control scheme...I had a hard time to get my head around the basic preset, trigger steering might throw some people of too, took me a while to get used to it and now I wouldn´t wanna miss it (in both games)
graphics-wise, Session certainly has a headstart using UE4, however Unity ain´t so bad either...it´s just very clunky to work with imho...
which brings me to mods for Session - I´ve read in this thread there are some too? Total news to me...
it´s really hard to say, which is "better"...so I got both
and now I´m basically waiting for a major update for Session
edit: just tried Session again, changed a few input modes etc. ...nope...it´s still way too clunky for me
Being in pre-alpha doesn't shield it from criticism, nor should it. We should take advantage of early access to give the developers feedback and make suggestions. But being in pre-alpha also means it's quite misguided to compare it to a product further in development or that has reached 1.0.
I agree that anyone should be made aware of a game's state when purchasing something in early access, but saying Session is awful (which a lot of people do) and that SXL is better because it just is (or because it's by skaters for skaters, so its physics are realistic, which is also a very important point) is beyond unfair.
It's still very important to properly address its current development phase because anyone will have higher expectations from beta or even alpha, whereas pre-alpha means the game is just barely viable for public use, so anyone willing to play should take it easy on saying the game is broken or whatever because yeah, that should be expected from ANY game in pre-alpha.
I've actually seen a lot of people say it's in beta and that the devs are aiming for a 2020 release, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I just have to correct people when they get the development phase wrong because it actually matters for a lot of reasons. Again, pre-alpha doesn't mean we shouldn't point out what's wrong with the game. The devs should be made aware of what we like and what we don't. But to compare a game in pre-alpha to another further in development as if they were both head to head is misleading.
Session = Better graphic and customization.
Anyway Session is for me kinda unplayable cause when I play the game there are thing that piss me off. Like grinds. I jump on the rail and then fly away. Its rly hard to enjoy the game when You cant skate withot falling, flying away etc.
Cant wait for Skate 4 and i hope it will be at least for ps 4
It is the one thing that frustrates me about Session, because I certainly prefer the control scheme and responsiveness of Session compared to SXL. Accidental shuv-its or tricks you never intend are far more common in SXL than Session, I would even suggest non-existent for me personally when playing Session.
