This game reminds me my chilhood. Hours spend on Street of Rage with my cousins =D For an Indie game, i am surprised about to feel the nostalgy from retro game on Steam x) That's awesome !

I would say it's a typicall game from that time. Pixel art, gameplay a bit frustrating, (although the beginning is pretty easy), high-scores. The musics are a little bit too recent but that goes well. For an old game, there is also more story / characters background =D A wiki would be nice, there is nothing on the website. It tooks me a while to find out that we can throw weapons

I haven't played with a friends (yet) but i still tested on my own. The key reassigning isn't convenient. it's definitively should be played with controllers ;)

I've already spent a couple of hours with Just Beat Em Up, and I'm going to continue.
It's a very good retro style beat them up.
I strongly recommend it. You won't regret trying it.

All the problems of an actual beat'em up from 30 years ago. Uncertain hit boxes, laggy controls, undodgeable ennemy attacks, enemies out of the screen that still pull off a blitz attack, it's ridiculous. Also no variety in available moves, repetitive gameplay, no dash, no doge nor guard nor any defense, no special moves, and a pretty poor fury mode.

Full points for actual retro gaming, no points for efforts at a decent gameplay. Was this game even play-tested?

Gameplay is reminiscent of classic beat em ups such as Final Fight and Streets of Rage. There also gameplay mechanics taken from Golden Axe (Fury Release move and charging attack).

Pros:
- The music is a standout feature for this game. Nice Techno sound track and boss fight music is good.
- Family Friendly when compared to similar titles such as Fight N' Rage and Mother Russia Bleeds.
- Good sized character sprites (players and enemies)
- More forgiving in difficulty than classic games of the genre (at least initially)
- Good variety of game modes
- Responsive controls, feels smooth

Cons:
- Sound effects are lacking, don't really stand out.
- Hit detection is not the greatest. Punches are ok but kicking (especially the "charged" kick) can be problematic to execute.
- Weapons disappear (break) after only a few uses
- Somewhat lacking in special moves and variety of attacks
- English narrative is not the greatest
- Enemies and environments feel somewhat generic and repetitive.
- No online coop (local only).

Conclusion: Overall a good classic fighting clone worth getting, although I'd wait for a sale.

Just Beat Em Up: World of Fury is side-scrolling action game with a retro arcade feel, featuring three different playable characters, nine chapters, in eight unique bosses. It can be played with a friend in co-op mode, and really works at mimicking the traditional arcade and early console beat-em up games.

The three different characters offer three different playing styles, with each having his/her strengths and weaknesses.

Enemies show up on each section of each stage, and you have to fight your way through each batch of enemies before your able to move on.

One of the stresses from the early arcade games had to do with timing issues and needing to make it past every part of a stage before the timer runs out. In this game there is no timer for each section, as long as you survive.

The most important part when evaluating these games has to do with the fluidity of combat. There are a lot of choppy breaks within the combat, and this may detract some players as a result. The combat does have a continual counter for hit combos, and fortunately there are no timers for these combinations. As long as you stay safe and do not get hit by enemy, the hit counter will continue to climb.

As you go through combat, you accumulate fury, and when this bar is raised to a maximum, you can unleash a powerful attack, and while your fury he is still lasting, you do have seemingly faster attacks and deal more damage.

The graphics are pixelated, the animations are not too exciting. The sprites seem to have very simple action frames, but it does have enough transitional frames to make it look like a early arcade game. The overall artwork could be better, and enemies do get a bit repetitive. It would be nice to have more dynamic designs in the enemies. It does get boring after hacking through 50 enemies to all look identical within the same level. (Of course there are different enemies on each level, and a unique boss as well, but the same enemy does repeat many times over each level.)

Overall, the game has the look from the 80s, and gameplay feel that seems to combine several features from Golden Axe and Streets of Rage. With the amount of pixel blurring, you really get the feel that you are playing in an arcade. This brought back some good memories, and I think the price is reasonable as well at $6.99 USD. I think if you are looking for that old school retro game feel, this has pretty much everything you are looking for. If you still have those older games and want to compare them with this, I would still stick with the older classics.

I REALLY hate to say this BUT I have to give this a thumbs down. Ive had it for a while and decided to sit down and smash through and then I hit the STAGE 2 bug (Crashed 8 times before I finally uninstalled). I tried comparability modes along with many other troubleshooting techniques. So while this game is broken for me it is a NO GO!

A surprisingly fun, retro-style Beat-em-up.
It's worth the sale price for the nods to 80s pop culture.

An easy ride down memory lane, an excellent retro BEAT'EM UP!!!

Has that early 90s retro arcade vibe for sure.

Brings memories of games like Big Fight, Legionnaire, 64th Street, Knuckle Bash, Silent Dragon etc.

If games like that do it for you, give this a go.

Just Beat Em Up: World of Fury is a tribute to all the good beat them up from the nineties like
Double Dragon and Street of Rage.
This game is fun and has a good re playability with all the different mode available, you can also play it on local with a friend.
There is also 'Champion Mode' if the game is to easy for you.
I really recommend this game if you are nostalgic of the 16bit area like me.
