Wondering about Epic system vs new AT system.
When I first bought this game, I was expecting it to be a translation of the new AT system of rules GW implemented, rather then the old Epic system. While unfortunately I have been unable to play either of these systems in person, it seems that AT is a bit more in depth on the Titan vs. Titan combat then epic, from reactor levels, orders, princeps (Is that singular for the pilot of a Titan?) traits, stratagems etc. While that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed the game, because I have for the most part, its a bit hard too recommend when it seems a bit simpler then what it could have been. Also it seems like it would be easier to expand upon, with lots of weapons, special missions, and new Titans (Looking at the new Warmaster they announced). Although I understand some of these might have some lore contradictions with AT being set in 30k, that wouldn't have been much of a problem for me. So personally, I was wondering what the reason was for the choice, or if from the beginning it was always going to be the 4th ed Epic system? Thanks. :admech: :admech: :admech:

Also the inclusion of Knights would be awesome, I've always wanted to see a Imperial household throw themselves into a suicidal charge against a full Chaos maniple. :D

From what I understand it was always meant to be based on Epic, which is kind of a shame I think since the newest AT really is one of the best systems GW has come up with in a long time. I adore modern Titanicus but I also appreciate getting to finally see what 4th edition was all about.

This game does seem simpler at first but I think the problem is that everything happens 'under the hood'. If you aren't paying super close attention to the battle log on the left side of the screen, (and often even when you are), it goes by in the blink of an eye. On one hand I get why, if you do a 1/1 translation of some tabletop stuff it ends up like those Full Control developed Space Hulk games which just drag on and on and on but also I do wish this game felt more involved. It is essentially move and shoot. There is plenty of strategy involved but at a glance you'd never know that.

Being spared the tedium of watching a bunch of dice roll is nice, sure, but I also wish something along those lines were shown. if nothing else it would give some kind of indication as to which weapons had a ton of shots, which didn't, etc. All that info is in game but it's an extra click away and you gotta remember it all or constantly check,

All in all I'm glad the game exists but yeah, I think it's always going to be caught in between the new and the old. Can't please everyone. Not to mention, who knows how many restrictions GW put on this right out of the game. They really don't seem to give devs much wiggle room, from what little we ever hear.

I'm not saying this game is brain-dead, as strategy, positioning, weapon selection and target prioritization are all important to success, but I feel just that extra push of something extra like orientation mattering, orders etc would really make the game for me. As for restrictions, I really hope that wasn't the reason why this is the Epic system as the Aeronautica Imperialis games was just a port of the new system of that if I recall correctly, and I feel that AT would have benefited more from a video game adaptation. Either way, playing through this game just really wants to make me play the new AT.

The new AT came out in 2018, well after we started working on Dominus, so it was a timing thing as much as anything. :)

I know what you mean about the original Adeptus Titanicus having slightly greater emphasis on the war engines. But on the whole I at least am OK with Epic. This way we can hope for more add ons in due course.
