I got a Thorax and dont know what to do.
So I started playing EVE again and i am planning on starting doing pve missions. I just bought a Thorax and fitted it pretty ok I think, I still need to learn some skills in order to use all the modules. But I dont want to lose it, so I want something safer, like I dont want to go bellow 0.5 .

What do you think? Should I do missions, should I go to 0.5 and do ratting? Or it would have been better to start exploring for now? I am kind of lost and I am looking for safety, I just want to play casual and make some decent cash, if there is a way

Vexor is probably a better choice for pve.

Ratting in high sec is a bad way to make money, it’s not the worst thing you can do but it’s not great either.

Missions are probably your best bet. With a standard cruiser, the best you’re looking at is lvl 3 missions but you can make some decent money from them.

Exploration is always a solid way to make money, no matter your skill level. I might or might not be biased though, but it's hands down my favorite way to make ISK.

Running combat anomalies, signatures, and escalations in a cruiser can occasionally yield big returns from faction/DED loot drops off overseer units/structures, even in high (mind you, most of the time it's not much better than running missions, but occasionally one will find that valuable module or blueprint). A rail thorax can handle most sites in high with ease (outside of the occasional 5/10 escalation), but be aware that sites in high are highly contested.

You don't buy a ship and then try to figure out what to do with it. First you figure out what you want to do, and then you buy a proper tool to follow your plan.

If you want to do exploration, you can and should do it in a frigate (T1 exploration frigate, astero, T2 exploration frigate), because those ships have bonuses towards exploration. Your Thorax is too slow for it and doesn't have bonuses. If you want to run combat sites or combat anomalies, you can use Thorax, but in highsec it's probably an overkill: you are going to fight against small size enemies with a medium sized ship wiht medium sized guns. You are going to be slower, easier to hit, your weapons tracking will be too slow and you will miss the majority of your hits. Depending on the site of course; some might actually have medium ships so you'll utilise your medium guns better.

If you want to run missions, again , different levels require different ships. Lvl1 missions have small ships. Lvl 2 missions have a mix of small and medium ships but from what I remember, it was also really hard to kill some enemies. Lvl 3 missions will be probably where you can use iether your Thorax or you can sell it later and buy Myrmidon or Brutix (or Vexor Navy Issue but I assume you dislike drones?)

Running planetary interaction might be also profitable and it's a passive income. Trading (+hauling from buy low place to sell high place) is usually one of the best choices. Salvaging is also an option.

I meant that I wanted to do mission run from the beginning but I didnt know if it is good enough for low sec ratting and higher level missions aswell, this is why I didnt know what to do.

And thanks for the tips! I will have a look at trading and right now I am doing salvaging aswell and mission runs, Thorax is fine! And yes, I use drones which help me get the kills faster, so I will stick with my Thorax, it is good enough for what I am doing at the moment.
