Just kidding. :)
I think it'll be used for guarding the void outside the map. I see it in very dark biomes, and not much bioluminescent as to hide its size.
It would be so scary to see it pounce onto the sea truck and smashing it to the cave floor.
Also for me it just seems fitting for it to stalk the prey from a pillar or the ceiling, since it has those spiked limbs to attach itself to a surface
That sure would be creepy as hell. :O

Once I figured out that I could just set my Cyclops to "Full Nope Ahead" until I was outside of the aggro range for any given leviathan, they lost their terror. Reapers? Small fry. Ghosts? Please. Sea Dragons? Too slow. The aggro range on those is so small, and they spend so much time just circling around, so you can just speed right past them. They also tend not to aggro your vehicles unless you are in them, so I parked my cyclops right by the Sea Emperor containment, and the Sea Dragon was RIGHT THERE. He just ignored it while I zipped right inside in the Prawn.
Now, as for this guy, it's kind of a tough call. I see it being in some caves, kind of like with the Ghost in the Lost River. The other biomes that I've seen so far just don't have enough room for a leviathan to hang around, other than the thermal spires (and obviously the lily pads). Every encounter would be just like when a Reaper would jitter around and clip up onto the banks near the Aurora and become the dreaded Land Serpent.
Adds to the creepyness
Until we need to grab resources off the ocean floor, at least. Then we die.
Meaning it still will screw you
Now all I can imagine is this thing swimming upside-down.
