In fact, they delivered v1.0 with some major VR bugs, as docking to Cyclops with Prawn/Seamoth lifts the Cyclops out of the water to a journey in the sky, buttons are misaligned that you always need to aim to keypads/buttons with an offset. In addition, of course the gaze cursor bug!
Some versions before v1.0 these bugs wasn't there :(
Docking problems and cursor misalignments occurred often during the dev process... They always fixed it! Then decided not to fix it in the final product :( Bad decision!
Many VR users spent much time and effort to analyse VR bugs, report them, test again to get a perfect experience. The devs fixed the biggest bugs while in early access and promised to give more love after v1.0.
I understand that VR is still a minority and compared to non-VR users not a money-maker. But it’s such a petty that they worked hard so many years on the VR support, fixed many bugs and on the final version they left us VR lovers alone with a bugged final version compared to the early access versions the months before, which were almost perfect.
And if I see the success of Subnautica (Game of the year), makes it even more bitter to break this promise :(
Anyway, it is still fun for me to play it. Learned to live with these bugs. I do not need any motion controllers - keyboard and mouse controls works fine and precise (if you learned to hack the setting file options.bin and get a cursor).
And VR support in below Zero? Would love it and buy it immediately. I read a dev comment from Oct 2018 that VR in BZ is a little broken due to much code changes and they will see if they finally support VR. Sounds like the same as in Subnautica... :-(
Well, guess the core staff was moved off of the project long ago. The expansion looks rather uninspired anyways compared to core SN. Will be keeping an eye out for progress though.
Would be awesome to see VR return to the series.
While I fully understand that VR is too much of a niche currently, and isn't worthwhile spending too much time and effort on, this still feels a bit like an excuse.
The main subnautica was plagued from the beginning with a few minor issues (PDA too close to the face, gaze cursor broken, buttons misaligned etc) which the VR community has been asking for months and months to be looked at, without even getting much of a response.
Now a single modder has fixed all of this in his free time.
In a way I appreciate that this time you're more honest about your priorities, nevertheless it feels like a shame that you couldn't be bothered to spend this little extra effort to make it VR compatible. If push comes to shove, you could even ask the modders again for help.
Because honestly: Subnautica is one of the best things available in VR right now, and is an absolute blast.
