Same problems .. I disconnect in every game today and yesterday. My brother too..
- AoE2 DE: Support > Crash After Launch[www.ageofempires.com]
Unfortunately, these steps aren't working for everyone, which is where the continuing issue comes into play.[Here's where I offer the disclaimer that everything below is speculative, but is being offered for your benefit.]
The belief right now is that the disconnect is due to the router or modem hardware itself, since the people who experienced it internally were able to address the issue with a different or new router. A few users have been kind enough to send us some VERY detailed network telemetry which has also suggested a few potential factors, but any networking analysis is going to take time to dig into the different network systems that are interacting with each other (the client, the server, Steam, Xbox Live, etc.).
The goal is (obviously) to have no one disconnecting from their matches, but there will always be external factors we cannot control: including hardware, software, and other variables.
All of that said, I've collected and passed along all the hardware information provided here, which is going to help our QA team test for specific hardware/cases. We are actively monitoring this situation and continue to treat it as the highest priority; as soon as we are confident in a fix, we (as much as anyone here) will be immensely happy to have it implemented and off our chests!
Thanks again to everyone who has continued to weigh in with solutions and information; keep it coming!
I can only play at early morning or after 2 am with normal ping. so this is not a fix for my case but its the router/ISP i guess. still AOE 2 DE is the only game doing this weird disconnection. So it should be fixed by the devs not the ISP or routers since there is tons of brands that people reported in here.
And i cant change the router since its for my landlord and he hates gaming so no chance in hell he is giving me the green light to do it. hopefully a fix in march update. i doubt it though.
VPN didnt fix it for me, tried many vpn softwares i even paid for one.
But using my phone and 4g network instead of my Wifi and router fixed it but with high ping most of the time during the day cause of the load on the 4G. seems like ISP/routers could be the issue for this game.
Dear Dev,
I have been experiencing this issue repetitively and have tried several fixes that didn't work, please see below for the info you requested
Router: TP-Link Model TL-WR940N ( But I experience this issue regardless if I use a router or connect direct to modem)
Modem: Huntkey Broadband Data Adapter (Model HKA02454003-8Q)
ISP: China Telecom, China Mainland
Also, if it's of any help, I don't experience this issue when playing Aoe2 HD version and using a VPN doesn't solve the issue for me on DE version.
It'd be great even if you could just let me know if this indeed is an issue with modem compatibility and if so which types of modem will actually work so that I can get my ISP to change my modem.
Also, please kindly let me know if there's any other info I can offer to solve this issue.
Thanks for your help!
If you play with friends, try playing via the free Radmin VPN, and connect via a dedicated connection. Start a lobby, and choose 'Use Local Lan Server' as server and you're good to go. Worked for me just now after a few weeks of not being able to play.
A new starting point for the developers to check why it's possible to connect via this VPN, but not via the game servers...?
if playing only with friends no need to do this workaround, just save the game every like 5/min. if its not working for online its not a real fix. also some people already said that vpn is fixing their issue so yeah its one of the workaround even for online matches.
I'm new to this and I keep trying to play against friends (or AIs to get it to work!) and after less than 5 minutes I get the following error message "You have been disconnected from the network. Please check your connection and try again. A save has been created for restoring. Would you like to exit without viewing the map and final statistics?"
I've tried using a cable rather than wifi, and tried using different VPNs. This hasn't worked though.
I'm using Windows 10 and an ASUS router DSL-N14U 300mbps wi-fi ADSL router.
My ISP is OriginBroadband, UK.
Thanks,
