When the entire underworld loves you.

- This is an Adult Visual Novel, which is why I consider the R18 DLC part of the whole and will include it in this review. If, for whatever reason, you aren't interested in this kind of content or aren't legally allowed to play it, you should look for another game.
- Since many Visual Novels are similiar in a bunch of ways, I'm gonna review this one on a few common aspects, trying to both include references to other VNs and give independent explanations.
- This is my first impression, I will update this review once I'm fully done with the game.

You know NekoPara? Then you might just find some similarites looking at Koikuma. Namely, the game has artworks from the same artist, "Sayori", alongside some of the same sound effects and you will also get some NekoPara feelings when hearing one or another song.
If you don't let's just say you can expect high quality content.
The artworks are awesome and what level of liveliness Koikuma lacks for not using the Emote Live2D engine is compensated by a huge variety of character sprites - poses, emotions, outfits, etc. The characters are animated as far as blinking eyes are involved, mouth movement while talking sadly isn't given.

The game runs smooth and offers all KiriKiri Engine default features such as around 100 save slots, quicksaving, jumping back and forth between sections, jump back to any previously seen dialog, auto mode, skip mode and a lot of settings to customize your experience like menu voices and that stuff.

Speaking of decisions, Koikuma actually features decisions (or rather the one decision) leading to multiple routes and multiple endings.
On the downside though, the game obviously wasn't designed to be 16:9. When playing in fullscreen you have noticeable black bars filling the left and right area, centering the actual almost square game window.

What can you ecpect from this game?
While of course not spoiling anything on the actual story, it is a Visual Novel featuring multiple routes and endings. There is a prologue introducing each character and every character has it's own route coming with around the same time to clear. You have a total of 5 main heroines and an addional 3 bonus characters with their respective routes to unlock.

With that, assuming you actually enjoy the story and don't rush-skip through, the prologue takes around the usual 10h to complete, adding up to a possible content time of around 60h. (Again I will update this when I'm actually done.)

The story itself is the usual stuff you'd expect from a slapstick comedy themed Slice of Life romance VN with very high focus on it's "adult" VN part. Some moments seem overly rushed/cut, others just plain out annoying, but overall it gives a lot of funny content to laugh or grin about while enjoying your everyday male protagonist do his thing.

After clearing your first route, just like in any other VN, the gallery is unlocked. And in Koikuma, the gallery is containing literally everything. From the usual CG Wallpapers and movie/scene rewatches, sorted by route, you can also jump back to any arc of any route you already saw. Every character unlocks (after clearing her route) a new theme for the main menu, additional story scenes, sketches from the development phase with artist comments, VA commentary (without subtitles, sadly) and even a wallpaper for your PC, this time coming in a 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 ratio featuring, actual 1920x1080 resolution.

On top of that there is the Sprite Viewer, where you can build your own scene, even with dialog, for a nice screenshot from all characters in every pose, outfit and expression with effects and whatsoever.

As mentioned, Koikuma is an Adult Visual Novel. Though, compared to even NekoPara, it's one that's more Adult than anything else, which makes it suprising to see the R18 DLC still sticking around the usual price of ~10$, considering how much it contains.
Like I said before the game comes with 5+3 routes, each of the main characters having 2 of NekoPara's well known GIF loop animated H-Scenes and up to another 8 regular ones. With this amount they seem to be thrown in your face every other scene, but you should have expected that in the first place.

Alongside the full fledged hentai scenes there are more moments than usual in the regular story aswell where characters are shown somewhat nude, which is where the R18 DLC does it's "uncensoring" magic.
On a note though, it's still normally mosaic censored on the 'good' bits.

Offering features like deciding between coming inside or outside in some of the scenes, X-ray view cut-ins in some of the scenes and even the life saving "panic button" to instantly... make the game less painful to be seen by someone else (You'll see what I mean) justifies the price all the more.

As can be read on the DLCs product description, it features the usual serving of almost every fetish out there and, as it seems to be the common thing, you can expect your favorite normal personality to be ruined by weird SM fetishes.

Is the game worth it? Well, heck yes!
Being used to the regular price of ~20$ per 10h VN, Koikuma gives you more content than the entire NekoPara Franchise for only 50% more in price (of a single part that is). It's a fun game with lots and lots to enjoy, so you can't to anything wrong.
If that still does not convince you, wait for the next sale. If you're not willing to buy it for around 25-35% off then I honestly wonder why you came here, actually reading reviews, in the first place!

If you enjoy leisurely games with a harem genre, then The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me will not disappoint. However, if you are not part of the target audience, then there is no need to try the game. It is a typical casual adult game that players should only consider if they are the intended audience, especially since it is not cheap.

The Ditzy Demons Are In Love With Me (sic) is the latest Sekai Project - published adult visual novel, this time from newcomers to Steam, SMILE. From what I can gather, this seems to be a new development team with some members of Neko Works involved, including the writer and main character artist.

Thanks to Valve's recent allowance of much more adult content, the game has an 18+ Adults Only Content patch available as a paid DLC, too. In the past this would have only been available from a separate store site, so this is definitely a step forward, and it's great to see developers and publishers taking advantage of the change so quickly. That said, the game is surprisingly explicit in terms of textual content even without the patch.

Anyway, The Ditzy Demons Are In Love With Me (sic) -- from now on referred to here as Ditzy Demons -- focuses on Ren, a reasonably typical high school student who finds himself living in his school's special dormitory for female demons who are, well, less than accomplished at using their demonic powers. The game starts with a glimpse of Ren's future and it's obvious from the get-go that the game is going to be rather focused on sex, with the opening scene focused on the five main demon girls feeling up Ren.

After the scene has been set with this all-in group Ren-masturbation session, the narrative jumps back in time to introduce Ren and his family and friends, and begins to take the player through the events that led up to the opening scene and beyond.

Presentation style is typical for the genre, with fixed hand-drawn backgrounds and large, fairly large-scale animated 'paper doll' sprites in the anime style drawn over the top. Character art is fantastic, as any fan of Nekopara would expect from Sayori; the girls are each gorgeous in their own way, with their personalities portrayed well through their expressions, poses, and outfits. After having the opportunity to play Nekopara Extra, with its outstanding "E-mote" system, Ditzy Demons' animations did seem like a step backwards in comparison, but they're still better than most other visual novels I've played.

The game includes more extras than I've encountered before, too, including the fairly common, but very well populated, unlockable CG image and movie galleries, as well as an excellent sprite poser that's a fantastic addition to the genre, similar in style to, though somewhat simpler than, the dress up mode from a Senran Kagura game. CG images in the non-patched version are risqué, but carefully placed blur, glow, or other obstacles always ensure you're unable to see "the good bits".

As with most visual novels, the sound effects are relatively minimal -- it's hard to insert background sounds into a VN without making it feel artificial -- but the developers have done a good job in making what is here sound good and fit the atmosphere well. Some of the um, squishy sounds, can be a bit distracting in the sex scenes.

Music is much as you'd expect for an anime visual novel, like music from an anime series. It's not really my sort of thing, but it's well produced and sounds like basically every other professionally made anime visual novel soundtrack.

The game is fully voiced, apart from the protagonist, Ren, as is normal for the genre. I don't understand Japanese so I can't say whether the script matches the text, but the actors all sound professional and the sound quality is excellent. You might want to turn the volume down if you're playing with the patch and other people are around, though; some of the sex scenes can get a little loud.

The interface is fully featured with all the standard stuff you'd expect from a modern VN. I experienced occasional lag while playing, but nothing too distracting. The interface can be hidden for screen shots or simply to enjoy the view, and there's a full text log and almost instantaneous warp to any line of the story in the history. Initially the line breaks seemed broken, with the main text box often displaying text that was split mid-word, but for the last few hours I've been playing that problem seems to have disappeared, so I think it must have been fixed in one of the updates that have been deployed before release.

Oh, the panic mode screen is worth a mention, too; it displays a random image from a small selection and one in particular makes me laugh every time I see it. Hello Gome! 8-D

Ditzy Demons' gameplay is typical of visual novels: the text of the story is presented to you a paragraph at a time from the point of view of the protagonist (Ren) in the main text box, you click or press a key to advance to the next paragraph, and watch the pretty pictures change as the story progresses. Ditzy Demons includes a single decision point some hours into the story, at which you can choose which of the game's main female characters you want to pursue as Ren's love interest, and then you continue in the same vein until the story finishes. Then you can go back and play again, choosing a different girl.

The story is quite long -- much longer than any other adult-oriented visual novel I've played. I'd estimate the fully patched story would take anywhere from 10 - 20 hours to complete all of the endings, depending on how fast you read (and how much attention you pay to the sex scenes), with the unpatched version probably clocking in at something like 20% less than that. As I mentioned, the patch is available as a separate purchase on Steam. Normally I get annoyed when such patches aren't made available for free, but this one offers more content than any other patch I've seen.

There are five main demon-girl characters, with three supporting characters and some funny demon pets to get to know as well. To begin with I was a bit bored by the stereotypes portrayed by some of the girls, which seemed almost like a copy of Nekopara's characters: the brother-obsessed younger sister; the sexy, but rather oblivious, friend; the loli; the catgirl; etc. But after playing for a couple of hours they grew on me, and pretty soon after that I'd forgotten that I'd even been annoyed about them in the first place. The genre is full of stereotypes and tropes, and Ditzy Demons actually does a pretty good job with them.

The story itself is mostly very well written and, assuming an original text in Japanese, has been translated perfectly to read in English. There are a few small grammar and spelling errors and a couple of other errors, but especially given the amount of text, the developers have done an admirable job. There are some laugh-out-loud parts in the script, and the ejaculation countdown in the patched version makes me smirk whenever it appears, but some of the sex scenes, which are very explicitly written, can be a bit much for my gentle soul at times.

Ditzy Demons is the best 'sexy' adult visual novel I've played. It is exceptionally well produced with excellent art and perfect translation, is of remarkable length with more extras than any other VN I've seen, and comes in both titillating mature and explicit R18+ flavours. The dialogue in the sex scenes can be a bit much on occasion, and the mosaic censorship is a shame (though somewhat expected), but if sex-oriented anime visual novels are your thing, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with this one.

So, I already assumed that The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me was going to be another eroge game, however, I didn't expect it to revolve around adult scenes that much. Regardless, I liked the whole cast and this game made me laugh more often than I would like to admit. It's no secret that I always get curious about games with adorable anime girls and thus, I was especially excited to start playing The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me. Admittedly, I enjoyed the common route a lot more than the specific character routes which is honestly a shame.

The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me opens with introducing Ren, the protagonist of this story. Ren has a little sister and an adorable childhood friend who suddenly attacks him. You see, it turns out that she is a succubus and is embarrassed that she has no experience in this field, to keep it short: She's a virgin. And so is Ren. The troubles are just adding up when Ren happens to get pushed into the school's special dormitory with his little sister and childhood friend. That being said, every girl here is actually an incompetent demon but luckily, Ren is there to help them out.

During the common route, each girl gets introduced. I found myself liking every one of them and it was hard for me to decide whom I wanted to romance first. I have to admit that, as aforementioned, I really enjoyed the common route. Whilst I found it odd that Ren constantly gets pushed into doing sexy stuff with the girls, I guess it's fine since he wasn't in a relationship. Despite the adult scenes, he still stays a virgin. However, there are a lot of slice-of-life scenes present here fueled with comedy that made the whole common route very entertaining to me. Thus, I expected the romance routes to keep up with the quality.

However, once I got into a route I noticed very soon that it mostly only contains adult scenes here. Whilst I don't have a problem with these scenes, the slice-of-life moments I loved in the common route fell rather short here, and it did disturb the character development. Since the common route rather felt like a prologue, it didn't seem convincing to me that Ren fell in love immediately and constantly starts to make out with the love interest. To be precise, I didn't feel like there were any new insights into the characters once I started to romance a girl, which is a shame given character development is the most important thing to me.

On the other hand, something I found well made here is that some routes explain fragments of Ren's past. However, the memories of the past do rarely show up and aren't explained very well so I didn't have the needed attachment to find the story touching. The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me does contain a lot of interesting themes as well and a great premise to turn the story into something unique, however, most things didn't get explained at all. For instance, the game did implement a lot of demons, but during their routes, their heritage only gets explained very shallow and there is definitely not enough insight to make these aspects interesting enough other than the things I already knew through other fantasy novels.

Overall, I found every girl's personality very adorable although I was hesitant at first since one of the side-routes is already married. But again, she is a succubus as well, so it's not that bad I guess. However, I found it a shame that during the playthrough, the player doesn't really have a strong personality. Most of the time, he agrees to everything even when he claims that he doesn't want it such as the adult scenes. To be precise, Ren was too passive for my taste and didn't seem like he had his own mind but just went along with what others decide for him or assign him to do. I understand that it might be exciting to be surrounded by cute girls, however, it was still odd that he was willing to make out with anyone.

After the common route, the player can choose what route they want to enter. For the first playthrough, the five main routes are selectable whereas three sub-stories are only unlockable after completing the first playthrough. Other than that, there are no choices during the game at all and thus, there is only one end available for each girl as well. The sub-stories are, however, a lot shorter than the main routes. After completing a romance route, there are after stories available that can be found in the extra section in the menu. However, they only do unlock after completing the route and are very short.

Graphic-wise, The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me is gorgeous with a lot of CGs available here. I especially liked that each girl had multiple facial expressions, poses and even outfits for their sprites that changed during the playthrough which is very impressive, to say the least. On a piece of side information, after completing a playthrough the player can even select between the different poses, accessories, and outfits to take a screenshot of their beloved girl. Additionally, the voice-acting greatly helped with the immersion and I found it was a perfect fit for the cute girls.

Whilst I had my problems during the romance routes in The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me I still managed to absolutely enjoy the common route. I found it a little bit disappointing that the routes didn't focus on the explanation of the unique story elements nor character development, however, it's obvious that this is an eroge since there are plenty of adult scenes available here. That being said, people who are looking for a game with a deep story and proper romance development will probably not enjoy this game a lot, yet I can wholeheartedly recommend The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me to those who enjoy eroges with adorable girls.

First of all, this visual novel is an adult nukige that contains NSFW dialogue even without the 18+ DLC.

The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me by SMILE and Sekai Project, features a male student named Ren Fujima who finds himself transferred to a seaside resort called "Broken Kids dorm" at Aoyama Academy.

It turns out the people he knows are demons from another dimension: Emiri an angel, Riria a succubus, Arle a mummy, Yuu a snow maiden, and Miyabi a witch.

Under Reika's instructions, Ren has to help all five of these girls to overcome their ditzy behavior and get rehabilitated by learning to be more responsible as adults with Aifa's supervision, the teacher overseeing their dorm.

This is a collaboration review between woosk and Gray Lowe. After we tried out the game for ourselves, we decided to give this visual novel a score of 9/10 based on the following factors:

Plot and character backgrounds
The beginning of the novel, even before getting to choose a route will take approximately 10 hours to get through. When the player gets to choose which girl to go for, the route for each one of them will take around 3-8 hours each.

After completing any one of the girl's routes, three additional short routes with Reika, Rin, and Aifa will be available, each providing about an hour's worth of content.

Sure there's a long span of hours in order to complete the beginning and one of the routes, but all of them are very entertaining for the player to go through as the girls have their own unique quirks that make them special in humorous ways.

Adding to the above, their personalities pertain to their fetishes such as with Emiri really loving her brother. We won't go into detail for the rest of the girls' fetishes as that's for the player to find out.

The English text is well-written and translated with very few errors. As a romantic comedy, this visual novel has some funny moments and surprises from time to time such as a cooking competition, multiplying rodents, and the dorm's pets.

All of the character backgrounds are sufficiently diverse where besides each character being a different kind of demon, they all have their own story to share as well as having their problems and life; more than just the quirks they have from the outside.

However, be aware that not only are there long spans of sex scenes if the player decides to purchase the 18+ patch, but there are also multiple sequences of these for each girl. If you are fine with taking the time to go through them, then the 18+ patch is for you.

Artwork, backgrounds and CGs
The same artist who made the characters in NEKOPARA and Tropical Liquor, Sayori, once again pulls off the aesthetics of the characters; giving them her trademark style of art and making them stunningly attractive.

In this visual novel, there are plenty of CGs, SD CGs, and H CGs (with 18+ DLC) with a very large variety of character facial expressions and poses, and cute emojis to bring out the humor.

The background scenes show sufficient variety with outdoor scenes having morning, afternoon, and night scenes. There are even cute dancing SD sprites of each main heroine in the game's music gallery.

Once you complete each route, you are rewarded with a new title screen for the game; making the player feel accomplished for completing whichever routes he/she takes on. What's handy is that the player is able to freely change among the title screens correlated to the characters or switch back to the default.

All in all, the game appears very bright and cheery with the excellent color palette while giving the more serious scenes a proper tone of coloring.

Voice acting and background music
While the game takes a lot of hours to complete, the voice acting truly motivates the player to be involved as each voice actress and actor (especially for the pets) has their unique spin to portray their characters.

When the player finishes a route, he/she will unlock the voice actress interview for the character's route they chose. However, all of the interviews are completely in Japanese without subtitles. But even if the player doesn't speak Japanese, it can still be nice to hear how different their actual voices sound compared to who they portray as.

There is a variety of background songs the game plays; being a great way to transition from one scenario to the next efficiently to depict the kind of mood a conversation leads.

This especially helps the player to be brought into a funny scene that occurs or to truly pay attention to the serious matters the girls are under.

Unlike the background music, the songs played in the opening and ending credits of each route provide vocals as well as being upbeat to compliment the cute yet ecchi game Ditzy Demons is.

And if the player decides to buy the soundtrack, they'll have to buy the 18+ patch to go along with it; being a downside from what's offered on the steam page. But if he/she is planning on buying the 18+ patch, then the soundtrack can be a complimentary thing to have.

Overall impressions
After spending more than 25 hours to play through the game, The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me is partly a romantic comedy with fantasy, and partly a nukige by having a greater proportion of the game having adult NSFW scenes which tend to eschew storyline and dialogue for hentai and fap material.

The Ditzy Demons Are in Love With Me has outstanding production quality in the voice acting, artwork, theme songs with vocals and translation, and there are enough cute and funny moments in the non-adult parts of the game that I can recommend the base game at the full asking price.

However, the adult scenes feel tacked on with the heroine getting into sexual encounters with the protagonist one after another in every girl's route. Some of these scenes feel pointlessly long and repetitive where I ended up skipping some of the text and voiced dialogue. I would still give them credit for having a large amount of CGs with outstanding artwork.

It is also a nice touch having a panic button that immediately changes the screen to something funny and unrelated to the game when a family member comes along.

Personally, I am glad I finished this game and like most of the characters enough which are funny, quirky and air-headed.
