The Riftbreaker

The Riftbreaker

Who the hell makes a timed demo?!
I saw this game today, downloaded the demo and was going to play it after work... NOPE. Some stupid reason this was only till today?! Why was the demo a day time thing...

We don't want the demo to be public now. We can give you access to it if you really want it, but it's not in good enough of a shape to act as a representation of the product 100% of the time. It was fine as a sneak peak at the pre-alpha, that's why we had no problem with the formula of timed access.

The demo will come back in August, more polished and translated to all our target languages.

the answer is Steam. This honestly unexpected demos for many unreleased games was brought as part of a week long Summer Festival event: https://store.steampowered.com/sale/gamefestival

And without it there would not be one so we are thankful :P

It is a very big mystake by Devs to not provide an appropriate notification about the 'demo'.. It is clearly seen by many posts, that players are unaware what they are downloading / playing, and get wrong impressions of it - the kind that Devs were avoiding in the first place by not opting for a public EA.

Everyone got the bad side of a deal in the end imo.

At over 5GB I had to wait to download it till I was off my phone's data plan, but now that I am.....

Hi, I'm very sorry that you were caught off-guard by the timed access to the demo. It was a part of the Steam Festival. The availability window was mentioned in our news pieces about it, but perhaps not explicitly enough. Again, I am very sorry for that.

In order to rectify this situation, please send me a direct message on discord.gg/exorstudios - my nickname there is @voidreaver - I will send you a key to access the demo again.

Even that page isn't clear that the demos would only last that long. I took it as they would only be promoting these demos for that long. I have like 5 other demos that I grabbed here that are still playable.

@Voidreaver - I appreciate that. I will reach out to you cause this looked really fun from what I saw on videos I watched. It is on my wish list so even if I dont get around to it, ill still be getting it when it comes out. Hopefully we dont have to wait to long.

Summer of Steam had over 900 demos available. The one week access to demos was supposed to mirror the E3 experience, where you would only play them during the expo. Did Steam/Valve communicate this very well? Of course not. If you DM Voidreaver on Riftbreaker Discord with a nice message he will likely give you a code for a demo that is playable always.

Is it actionable for others? =) I would love to check the demo. Downloaded it with a bunch of others but missed it. I Thought Iron Harvest was the only one with the time limit)

Wait, what? Steam is not allowing devs/publishers to put out demos on the store page?

Same question here. What does a steam event have to do with providing a demo. I mean don't get me wrong, if devs or publishers don't want to provide a demo to the audience, that's up to them. But if there is already one, and was accessible for a time....why not make it generel?
Well with passage of time demo version can stop being... demonstrative.
And in some cases having a demo with an old build can be worse than have no demo.

I think a lot of people would like access to the demo regardless of some "festival",
I downloaded the demo, clicked play, nothing happened. I went to the forums and discovered that I need to upgrade to windows 10, by the time I figured that out and had everything stable the demo was no longer available. /la sigh
Anyone who has downloaded the demo can upload it? I did that with one demo an it works that way.

(here is that other game, Starmancer: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1062000/discussions/0/2573193396561175805 )

I'm sure that if you contact me on Discord - www.discord.gg/exorstudios - we can figure something out. ;)
@void. It seems like it was a problem. Why not push to get the demo back on steam? Wouldn't that be easier than having people go 2 extra steps to basically get a timeless demo?
