its fitting. Campaign is good but battles take a backseat.

As was expected from the historical title being released right after the warhammers

A lot of the complaints are the same as other recent historical total war games. Maybe it's time for a new engine.

I like how people rate game before they play it buhahahahah

Nuh. Same paid reviews. Rome 2 also had IGN 88% lol

The PC gamer one is pretty surprising, though this line might explain it a little.

I look forward to seeing how things like the diplomacy system and maybe duels carry on into Warhammer 3

tbh, I get the feeling this one will be more popular with fans than with critics.

Fans will be going through warhammer fever as well. They'll be quick to compare the visuals

Actually some reviewers Ive read compare it to Shogun 2 instead

Indeed.

For Total War fans, there’s lots here to enjoy. It’s the best historical Total War game since Shogun 2, and one of the finest this series has seen thus far. However, for those drawn in by the bombast and spectacle of Total War: Warhammer, this game can feel flat by comparison.

So in comparison.
Battles are as usual. Campaign is the best ever.
This means, it is the best Total War so far, if the battles are on the same level as always.

I get the feeling from the pc gamer reviewer that he was kinda disappointed at the lack of realism. That may just be what I got from him.

Really? For me the review was more or less "It's good, but it's not Warhammer."

I understand, of course, chinese people fighting is good and nice, but where are the Skaven and the Mummies?

A historical TW obviously cannot compare in battle ability variety than one based on fantasy. That said, there are opportunities for it to compensate in other areas like allowing new abilities to be unlocked through quests/events/diplomatic decisions/religion etc. While this isn't completely new, there's room to expand gameplay in this area way more than merely capturing a port to unlock spice warriors as Aksum in Attila for example.

You can also make it that unit models are higher quality because of the lower numbers in unit variety.

I like the Shacknews review where he says that he avoided the battle map because he found it hard to control.
