Fluffy horde is a mix between RTS and Tower Defense where you will be commanding the forces of a kingdom to complete various objectives, ranging from escort to defense, defending against the evil bunny hordes. By this you already can understand this title wants to have an ironic, humor-filled style for its setting and narration, but instead it ends up resulting cringy and just not as fun as it wants to appear, mainly thanks to the few and repetitive voice lines, and a storyline which is just riddled with clichès and situations that will make players just have goosebumps for how idiotic these are.

Gameplay wise, the game at first is not bad, putting you in charge of producing units (archers and knights), defending farms and windmills to get resources, use map contraptions such as bridges to halt the bunny hordes, or instead escort certain characters to designated areas. You'd think there is a lot of variety in what the game proposes, and at the very beginning it seems so, but then the gameplay formula falls into boredom and repetition astonishingly quick, proposing missions that just look like a copy-paste of the previous ones with slight changes, leading to utter boredom in just some hours of gameplay.

Multiplayer consists in a PvP version of the base game, where players are both in charge of managing the forces of the kingdom and also bunnies, being able to spawn them on the enemy's side of the field, with an objective different for each of the quite numerous maps. Again, even if this concept might be interesting, the game lacks variety, and also explanations about how things work most of the time, resulting in players more than once asking themselves "what did just happen?". Me and my colleague did not have a funny nor pleasant experience with this multiplayer mode, aswell.

Overall Fluffy Horde is a game that wants to follow the concept of Kingdom (for example) and elevate it to part puzzle game, part RTS, which would be a good concept if it was realized in a correct manner. Instead it fails on the most critical part, gameplay, while just being mediocre in everything else except graphics, which are pleasant and admittedly well done.
I do not suggest buying this game because even if it has a lot of content, that content's quality is mediocre at best and just not worth playing.

🎮 Gameplay
The gameplay of Fluffy Horde is based upon the type of map you currently play: generally Defense, Escort and Boss Killing are the three main modes proposed.

Defense is your run of the mill tower defense experience, where you need to defend Windmills or other structures from the bunnies. To do this two units, Knights and Archers, are available, and can be upgraded three times each at increased cost. As part RTS, these units can be moved and placed to protect a certain area. In most maps, you will also need to use environmental contraptions such as bridges, catapults, or cannons to support your forces. The limited number of available units and repetitive level layout undermine what could be a decent gameplay type.

Escort works as Defense, but the target to protect is instead mobile, and can be autonomous or player-controlled, depending on the level type.

Boss Killing happens at the end of each chapter, proposing a boss fight against unique enemies. These levels can actually be decent and refreshing in contrast to the general dullness, but are few and scattered far from each other.

Global factors in each mission like the Breeding Rate are to be considered, basically too many bunnies present on the map will result in an instant loss no matter what happens. I found this mechanic to be just unnecessary and annoying, especially with certain map layouts.

Each map will have also three Medals, additional objectives to fulfill, just for the sake of completion, as they will not give any usable reward, just an achievement for getting them all. This does not encourage players to achieve these objectives, as something usable in-game would be a better reward.


📖 Story
The story is very basic, full of clichès, and just not even worth following. Of course you can't expect a great story from this genre, agreed, but this is sub-par even for RTS/TD standards.

👊 Combat System
Combat is RTS-style with units attacking enemies in range. Your units cannot be killed, combat ones anyway, and so they are just like mobile towers in any tower defense. The fact combat units cannot die can lead to either levels becoming too easy, or multiplayer soft-locking because both players just have so many soldiers nobody can defeat the other one.

💰 Content & Pricing
The game features m,ore than 100 levels and that is a great amount of content even if the levels only last a few minutes each at best. Problem is the gameplay quality is not good, and therefore quantity doesn't really matter. Priced at 5€ base price, i still would not recommend a purchase. I could not bear myself to finish it, but I estimate total duration around 10 hours.

The game itself is not very difficult, it just is about understanding the trick to each level, which can be done, at worst, after a few retries. The challenge rating overall is Medium/Low.




🎥 Graphics
Very well done and pleasant low-res pixel graphics, they suit well this type of game, while effects and bunny physics show some modern elements in an otherwise retro style. Solid.

Repetitive soundtracks and voice lines result in a cacophony you don't want to hear anymore after some hours of playtime.

Solid, never had any issue [i7 4820K, GTX1080, 16GB RAM, 4K Resolution].

Enemies will just proceed in a certain direction or follow some characters, they have not real AI.

The fact you have to click on banners and not units themselves to select them is annoying. Generally, menus and Ui do the job nicely though.

Fluffy Horde is a game that starts with good ideas but then realizes them poorly. The utter boredom gameplay delivers is the most awful issue, and literally kills the game because of not enough variety and player involvement factors. Apart from graphics, all other components are at best mediocre, making overall an insufficient product, as there are many other better titles of the same genre.

I wish there was a "Neutral" button in the middle of "Yes" and "No." To be honest, this game has the potential to be enjoyable for the right person. What kills it for me is the game's desire to be fast-paced with "time-trial" medals. While I could be enjoying the time spent killing bunnies, it's been replaced by frustration at not killing them quickly enough. The pixel art and animations are stunning, so I understand the high price for all the effort that went into creating them. However, for pure gameplay, $10 is simply too much, and even $5, sadly, is questionable.

A flurry of fluffy mayhem is headed for your kingdom, but don't let the soft and cute packaging on the outside fool you; these Bunnies are out for blood and destruction. Fluffy Horde is a side-scrolling strategy-defense wargame of the most humorous and cartoon-y kind, a kingdom defender full of unique units, cute animal slaying action, and careful financial decisions.

Instead of a progressive and connected campaign sandbox, this is broken up into individual missions and maps each with their own often puzzle-like logical solutions and loads of careful trial-and-error.

Perhaps its greatest strength though is its humor with a comedic medieval style that Monty Python fans can easily get behind, complete with a plethora bloodthirsty knight killing rabbits. It might not have as sound or solid strategy mechanics as the other leading 2D survival sandboxes but Fluffy Horde definitely comes in a cute and funny package that is hard to deny.


Each stage of Fluffy Horde presents you with a different tactical situation against a horde of bloodthirsty (bot honestly quite cute) rabbits, a different design for each invasion and often interesting new mechanics to spice them up. Massive catapults to fling armies of bunnies in every which-way, expensive draw-bridges to hold back or push through enemy bunny hordes with precise timing, and flamboyant dudes dressed as carrots to bait masses of the furry little terrorists in a specific direction are just a few of the gimmicks slowly introduced.

Your goal is to protect the precious windmills at the center of each level's town, and you'll need a well-rounded and financially able army of close range and long range units to do that. Placing units at key-points, moving them on the fly at defensive moments, and protecting landmarks like farms which generate money or of-course the windmill are the more obvious tactics but you'll also need to adapt to the various mechanics presented in each situational map.

Fluffy Horde feels like the now classic sidescrolling defense game Kingdom: Classic in a lot of ways but its a lot more situational, with more of an emphasis on clever bite-sized levels with more tactical and logical solutions than the progressive style of its predecessor. The solutions here are genuinely just fun to figure out through trial-and-error, and some seriously hilarious twists are thrown at you throughout the whole thing (The Titty Plant levels are a pretty great surprise every time).

More a fan of the sprawling and progressive city survival and kingdom building aspects of Kingdom: New Lands and disappointed with the mission-based layout of Fluffy Horde? Have no fear, there's something in store for you, too, as the developer is already hard at work on a full-fledged survival mode to expand and survive the masses of bunny death through. Excited to see how that turns out, because the formula here is already a winning one but it needs something a little more progressive to keep it from getting tedious.


There's some great fuzzed-out and spacey sounding chiptunes here for the background music, the pixel-art is absolutely attractive and mostly hilarious with all sorts of visuals ranging from farting pink rabbits with armies of bunnies charging from its ass, to the previously mentioned flamboyant carrot dudes who take great pride in their carrot-suits. All in all Fluffy Horde has a ridiculously hard to forget style to it that stands out for better or for worse from the usual pack of indies with its absurdist humor and visuals.

One more game with an cool idea, which is not that well excecuted and thereby not really bad nor good.
It's basically a tower defense game with RTS elements on a side scrolling basis. Many levels felt more like timing riddles, because you have to build/move the right things, just in the right second and thereby some levels are becoming pretty much trial and error. Not really a game anybody must play, but can be fun for a couple of time and since I got it really cheap in a bundle, it's okay.

A disappointing side-scrolling RTS that isn’t as funny as it wants to be. The sound is also repetitive and gets tiring after about five levels. The gameplay mechanics seem interesting for a few levels. New mechanics are introduced slowly and there isn’t any reason to want to get three stars as there isn’t a leaderboard in place. The graphics are definitely the best part of the game, as the fluid pixel art is quite pleasing to view.

Combat & Controls
This game is a side scrolling RTS with units who attack based upon their own AI. There are a few units types that can attack, the first one that the player encounters is the soldier. The soldier is a melee unit with an upwards swing that hits slightly above them. They are quite slow to attack. To move the solider, and every other unit in the game, the player must click and drag their flag. This control scheme feels quite bad to play with as I would lose track of the flag amidst a huge horde of bunnies. This would make it quite difficult to reposition him to a key area. The controls are quite frustrating and I would say that they feel like they were designed for a touch screen instead. A box select is available for lots of units, and double clicking a single unit type’s flag will pick all of those units on the screen. One suggestion I have for improving the controls is giving the player more zoom out options. It is difficult to play such a fast paced game when I can only see one fifth of the screen at a time. Units must be bought with money before they can be used.

Resource Management & Upgrades
To gain money to spend on units, the player is able to buy farms. Farms then passively provide gold. If bunnies arrive at a farm, they will start eating the crops. If there aren’t any crops, then the farm won’t provide gold. If the bunnies are defeated, it will start producing gold again. One of the boring parts of farms is that the farmers don’t die if the bunnies arrive. There is no reason for me to focus on my farms first for defense. Bunnies will eventually move on and then I get more gold. I wish that I had a bigger reason to want to defend my resource generators. In other side scrolling RTS games, such as Swords and Soldiers, workers will still gather resources as units similar to their isometric counterparts. They can die which stifles my economy. For this reason I want to protect them. Without any permanent disadvantage, farms just become a boring side activity that I must check on occasionally. Farms are still more monotonous than the main villain in the game too.

Bunnies
These are the main villains in the game. Their main abilities are hopping, eating, and reproducing. They reproduce quite quickly and a mission will be failed if there are too many bunnies in the level at one time. They will also be attracted to food and windmills. Later on, new breeds of super bunny units appear, but their main attacks are to shoot more bunnies. There aren't a whole lot of mechanics, and I think that the game is held back a bit by its insistence on sticking to simply the bunny reproduction gimmick.

Medals
After every mission, there are medals that can be collected. These medals aren’t stored on any leaderboard and they aren’t displayed to friends. They are fine for personal accomplishment, but I can’t find any incentive to finish them. Some games will even hide unlocks like concept art behind medal collection. In this game, there doesn’t seem to be any real reason to want to collect the medals.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is dull. The netcode is fine, it is the gameplay that I find difficult to enjoy. I have played every stage in multiplayer, and each stage does have its own mechanics. These mechanics aren’t always enjoyable, such as the cannon level. The multiplayer is PvP and two players must battle to flood the other with bunnies. There are four powers, two that spawn bunny units that can be used to delay and destroy the opposing player. This quickly turns into a bunny button spam fest while units block a choke point. I wish the multiplayer was more engaging, but after an hour of playing I felt like there wasn’t much left to see.

This is a side scrolling RTS to avoid for now. If this a genre you are interested in I would suggest you play Kingdoms: New Lands.

📚 Story: 📚
The story tries to copy the style of the famous comedy troupe, Monty Python. Monty Python is self-aware and witty. This game only captures the first aspect. The game understand that it is intentionally ridiculous, as there is a bunny summoner who is trying to destroy a kingdom will killer bunnies. The comedic timing and the interplay of characters is what is really lacking, and is one of the best parts of Monty Python. The summoner seems interesting at first, but there aren’t any amusing side characters that support him and can set up jokes. For example, the most prominent member of the royal family is the princess. She is a stereotyped female teenager who only speaks through text to speech. The story is sadly bland and doesn’t really a lot of comedy.

🎧 Sound:🎧
The sound is pleasant the first time you hear it. There is a lack of variety in the audio of this game. Units have about three voice lines each. One of the problems is that many of these units will be purchased in a single level. Bunnies reproducing also has a popping sound. The rabbits reproduce at a quick rate, so this sound will occur quite a bit. The music is atmospheric and sounds medieval, which fixes the theme. It is rather relaxing, which conflicts heavily with the often fast paced rate of these levels.

📺 Graphics: 📺
The graphics are pleasing to look at. There are different sizes of rabbits that appear to add visual variety to the game. I also enjoy seeing how units change visually when they are upgraded. The most visually pleasing aspect of the game is how fluid the animations are. There aren’t any stilted frames, and they all look quite natural. The graphics really are the best aspect of the game.

This is certainly an atypical Tower Defense game. You have to buy/upgrade units, and manually drag them around to defend your base against rabbits in. However, time is of the essence. Right off the bat, you need to start deploying your units immediately to attack the rabbits, or they quickly overwhelm your base. Any second wasted contemplating what to do, results in you losing a medal, or the stage entirely.

Also, if you want to get all the medals per stage, you have to play the stage in a singular way, meaning you have to upgrade and purchase specific units, a specific amount of times, and deploy them within a certain time frame. Unlike other TD games, choice is taken away from you. I mean, you could do things a different way, but you won't end up getting all the medals for a stage. As such, it makes this game kind of dull, because the game developers clearly wanted there to be a "correct" way to clear a stage.

It feels like this game would probably do a whole lot better on mobile instead, as dragging your units around with a mouse is a terrible hassle. The combination of action, tower defense, and "strategy" just doesn't work very well in this game. There's only so much fun to be elicited from manually dragging around your units to attack rabbits. There's some degree of fun here I suppose, but I certainly wouldn't recommend getting this at full price.

This game is simple fun enough if you play it with the sound off. If you play it for the sound on be prepared to be extremely annoyed. Remember how in warcraft if you click a unit they do a short yelp like "work, work" or "wot is it?" ? Well this developer tried to copy that but forgot that the clips are supposed to be brief. Be prepared to click on an archer and have to hear some long ♥♥♥♥ like "When did it come to this? Elves killing bunnies? No for real, somebody explain it to me." every other time you click on them.

When i unlocked the carrot decoy characters and they did this same thing but using obnoxious stereotypical "gay" voices, I threw this game right in the metaphorical steam trash.

Super simplistic but fun and cute. It does get rather tedious as it goes on. Feels like it was made for your phone rather than your pc/tv. Also I cannot in good conscience recommend with two lil bunnies at home.

Remember that old game Lemmings? Well, imagine if they were blood-thirsty killers andyou were editing the level to defend against them. Well, that's this game.

Mechanic
Each level is a self-contained puzzle: amass gold, buy defences and weapons, unlock and control bridges and barriers... get the princess to her party... destory bunny-generators, etc
- gold amasses over time, farmers/miners boost gold-production
- defenders can be deployed and powered-up to be super-efficient bunny-killing machines
- the environment: drawbridges, pits, portals, springboards, guys dressed as giant carrots... so many cool traps
- windmills and other key landmarks are usually required for you and your army to defend at all costs
- bunny population grows over time, unless their generators are destroyed: too-many bunnies meanys instant game-over
- sometimes, princesses need saving: they cannot take much damage so the game becomes an escort mission rather than a defend-the-base
- some missions require you to figure out the best order in which to prioritise and solve the level
- each level has 3 special awards for meeting certian conditions: so while you can limp through, there is a real goal of replaying each level for perfection, Angry-Birds style

Accessibility
- bright, clear, comical pixel-art
- no profanity or nudity
- lots of blood and gore...
- nice clear menus, options to customise, clear quest goals

Universe
- a really funny, British (Pythonesque) sardonic world
- very silly: peasants dressed as carrots, party-going princesses, bored elves etc
- the bad guy is bad, and the bunnies are creative in their destructive capabilities... evil has bucked fangs.

Delivery
- the map is clear and access via mouse easy
- scrolling the level-map can take some getting used to, but you will need to monitor this to properly assign your resources
- failure is easy, but thankfully the ability to replay is simple

Warren. Warren never changes. A cottontail of good versus evil. I can feel it, calling in the hare tonight. A rich story that you will be lapin up. Rabbit pun number five.

Pros:
- challenging, diverse level design and progression
- appealing world-design and story
- replayable for achievements, some mind-bending puzzles

Cons:
- navigating long maps is difficult; it's easy to panick when the bun hits the fan
- not always apparent what to do, leading to some really frustrating replays
