base self defence
With a base fully developed, I usually have 5 fusion ball launchers with two shots each what are the odds of a battleship geting through tis defence? (the answer I got was Incerdabily low and I hope some one else will check my math,(I am not posting my answer because I think It is very wrong))

I believe that it is very low as well. I think something like 3 hits out of 10 are needed, with 80% chance of a hit with each shot.

I never really build base defenses though. By the time Fusion defenses and Grav shields are researched, the game is almost over. Plus, defending the base is pretty easy and gives you lots of rewards.

I always just shot down every UFO and had no base defense ever. Different play styles I guess.

Yeah, the worst feeling ever is when you get a base raid super early in the game. The only upside about base assults is it is kind of a way of telling you that you're doing good. But yeah I would go as far to say 5 Fusion balls are a bit overboard. But that's a good thing lol.

I never build base defences either. Just keep some troops there. Ideally my first base is rounded but mostly research. My second base is all engineering [medi kits and other items like alien alloys are good money makers, never waste alien fuel though (elerium)] I do build a few bases just for radar as I move along.

I never build base defenses unless I have a base with a very small staff. With good base design tactical defense is easy and gives lots of loot and experience.

I would build my bases specifically to give my troops an advantage during invasions. Isolated hangars, long hallways with bends in the right places, etc. Having every type of defence I could get seemed like a smarter way to go, to me. Then again, I wasn't in any sort of hurry to finish the game ever, I'm more like the Turtle than the Hare in that way.

Also, this might have something to do with the difficulty settings but I seem to recall a few base attacks that couldn't be prevented, no matter what.

Base defence is fun too. I do wonder if you have no humans on a base if it will ever be attacked? Aliens scan for brain waves to find your base. Of course building to mind control is the ultimate base defence and great fun.

i Think my point is beeing lost I was asking for some math help. I do use base defences as i am often attacked when my personel are out on missions. wit the total limit of 255 troops in the game it is easy to run low at a given base if you are running multiple away parties from one base

Wow that is alot of troops.

Ideally, the aliens don't get to land inside your bases, so I think your Fusion silos are a good start. Overkill? No such thing. Whatever works will do nicely. I'm a generalist so I like to have a little of everything, as long as there is room for it.

If there is an ideal ratio of missile silos to other defences, then I'm unaware of it.

I can't help you with the math as I have no idea what to input for the variables. "Ships" we never see "attack" our bases and it is automatically resolved. My latest game is too new for base attacks but as I recall, it's something like "the base is under attack; such and such fires...hits, such and such fires...misses, ship is repelled...such and such fires and hits - ship is destroyed."

I'm not sure what math has to do with it. In my convoluted mind, your question is a bit like asking how much pressure do you have to apply to a pedal to make a bicycle move? I don't know...you just push on the pedal until it goes.

See, it doesn't really matter what your odds are, because the aliens will continually send UFOs at your base once they zero in. Good luck :D

you shouldn't shoot down the UFOs !
you should allways allow them to land.
only exeption is when they try to infiltrate one of the founding nations.
you get much more loot when you fight them on ground.

When I start researching mind control I tend to shoot down over water just to get the month over.
