OpenXCOM 1.0 released go grab it!
http://openxcom.org massive props to the guys behind the project!

-- AVAILABLE STEAMPLAY:

Choose your Installation folder as it follows:

-Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom UFO Defense"

Step 1 - Rename the original "dosbox.exe" to something else (Just keep it incase you want to go back to the original game)

Step 2 - Rename your "OpenXcom.exe" to "dosbox.exe" (Steam should now launch OpenXcom!)

Have fun!

So far awesome release,I did notice a bug with soldier names, both changed in the Soldiers menu in base and Unchanged,in the Battlescape (actually more of "X has been fatally wounded,Y has died,Z is Unconcious) 3 random letters and sometimes a symbol ( ie / or & ) would randomly show up in the message boxes. ( Alexandier Blahblahblah/kI has been fataly wounded ) but in the menues the names show up fine.

Sounds like you enabled the XcomUtil Statstrings mod, it adds "tags" to the soldier names based on their stats. See http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Statstrings

Is there a way to launch OpenXCOM through steam?
So far, so good but steam overlay would be sweet ^^

Yes there is a way to run it through steam. Just copy and paste the contents of the openxcom folder into the ufo defense directory and change the openxcom.exe file to dosbox

I do it all the time. Check my posts on this forum if you need help. I made one on this subject a while ago.

Simplest solution is to just install OpenXcom to your X-Com game folder on Steam and rename OpenXcom.exe to dosbox.exe.

To get the Steam overlay working, just enable an OpenGL Display Filter in the game options (Raw or Pixellate are good if you don't want any visual changes).

Do I install openxcom to the /XCom UFO Defense folder or the /XCom UFO Defense/XCOM - Folder where the gamedata is? Sorry for being a total noob!

It should look like this "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom UFO Defense"

Step 1 - Rename the original "dosbox.exe" to something else (Just keep it incase you want to go back to the original game)

Step 2 - Rename your "OpenXcom.exe" to "dosbox.exe" (Steam should now launch OpenXcom!)

Just one simple rename and you can bounce back to the original!

I think it's clear now :)

Could somebody point me to some info on what the different display filters do? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.
