Stuck at the very beginning
At the very very start after the opening cutscene, the giant golem hand elevator, there is a wooden wall blocking the path and no instructions. I tried grabbing the sword stuck in the skeleton but it just flew off like a buzzsaw, I thought this was a glitch and reloaded the checkpoint but it does that everytime and makes a special noise so maybe it is supposed to happen? I tried google but apparently no one else has ever got stuck here. I just wanna get to the game please help

Hey y'all,

A little late to this party but wanted to post here as well. A special thank you to kablahrz for fielding some of these questions.

I replied to loganjamesalex directly but wanted to re-post this here for anyone else experiencing this problem:

“Sorry you had this issue. Free Move behaves differently than the default movement, so you do have to manually interact with most of the blue circles (though the vast majority are entirely optional). The good news is: this is not a bug and you don’t have to keep going into your Options menu.

On your right controller there is a button for an aimed teleport. Press down the UP direction on that controller to use it. When you point that at the blue circles you will see the aimer snap into place and turn white, letting you know you are locked in. Then, you release the teleport button to arrive in that spot. This will work with all blue circles you find in the game and is addressed in the manual under Snap Points (our name for the blue circles).

Though this was done intentionally during that tutorial to make the player learn and use the teleport interaction while in Free Move, looking at it through your eyes has made us realize that this is confusing.
We are going to change it, so it works like the other tutorial points in the level.

Hopefully, this will make getting started a little easier.”

For anyone playing in the default movement system, this issue will not be encountered

ok so I just found it on youtube and apparently the dude is supposed to show up and help you but for some reason I stand in the blue circle nothing happens he doesnt appear I just bought the game yesterday, could it be because I am using free movement?
loganjamesalex Jun 8, 2018 @ 3:36pm
Yep shut off free movement and it instantly works, broken ♥♥♥ game why have free movement in the options if you never even tested the tutorial with free movement enabled and it breaks the entire game, I thought this game looked really good but I guess I will have to refund without even playing it because free movement is so broken. I thought higher of you inXile
kablahrz Jun 8, 2018 @ 3:38pm
Yeah, there should be a floating companion, Crux, who helps guide you through the initial stages of the game, and occasional points, beyond, and he should have first shown-up, I believe, to instruct you on how to throw fireballs at a goblin up atop a statue.
loganjamesalex Jun 8, 2018 @ 3:41pm
he doesnt show up in any of the places with free movement enabled. for a game with so many different movement styles you would think they would at least test the first 5min of gameplay with them. i guess all I can do is wait until my 2 weeks are up and then refund or try using the slow as ♥♥♥♥ menus to turn it off every time I see a blue circle on the floor.

i was really looking forward to this game too had a coupon since before I got my oculus now I am regretting the entire experince because every VR game I play is a buggy untested mess like this and not even a big studio with a big name can make a game that can get past the tutorial.

"try using the slow as ♥♥♥♥ menus to turn it off every time I see a blue circle on the floor."

Not sure what you mean by the slow menus. Everything in the game was pretty snappy for me. The transitions between dungeons, and when accessing the workshop and main menu, took some time when I first got the game, but that was taken care of by installing the game on an SSD -- a good recommendation for any game at the top of the play queue. I actually came to miss the singing from the transitions after moving the game to an SSD.

And I really don't understand what you mean by the "blue circle on the floor." I don't recall any blue circles on the ground that had any bearing on the game. Ah, or are you saying that the blue circles on the floor indicate, to you, that Crux should be appearing?

And are you saying that Crux *does* appear if you're using some other movement mode?

Spoiler alert... This is what you should be experiencing, though, again, I'm not sure what blue circle you're seeing. (Could be associated with the bug you're experiencing.)

You definitely seem to be in the correct place, given the skeleton with the sword through its head.

Are you even reading my replies? I mean the blue circle even seen in the YouTube video you linked, the one on the floor in front of doors ( https://imgur.com/a/y919cj9 ) I grabed a screenshot from that YouTube video because I have not quite figured out how to grab screenshots in VR yet.

The menus are slow because you have to chug a potion to get to options which takes way too long.

What part of "Yep shut off free movement and it instantly works, broken ♥♥♥ game why have free movement in the options if you never even tested the tutorial with free movement enabled and it breaks the entire game, I thought this game looked really good but I guess I will have to refund without even playing it because free movement is so broken. I can be standing right in the place where Crux is supposed to appear for 5 minutes and nothing will happen, trying to move slightly maybe if the actual trigger is very small nothing. As soon as I pause, chug a potion, high the free movement OFF button, unpause, the game immediately brings up Crux like I am standing in the right place (becasue I was!). I hope that spelled it out enough for you however I can make it more simple if required.

Honestly I can tell you are just another player, just load up the game turn on free movement and then start a new game. You will get past the cutscene and be lowered by the hand elevator then Crux will disappear and shut up completely not appearing at all until you shut off free movement in the options. Unless you can patch the game for me you can't help.

Thanks for the screenshot. It seems we have different understandings as to what constitutes a blue circle.

It's not a tutorial; it's just the early stages of the game.

As stated, locating the game on an SSD is recommended to speed-up transitions.

Good luck. Hope inXile gets it fixed within 13 days.
loganjamesalex Jun 9, 2018 @ 1:27pm
If that is not the tutorial then I guess this game doesnt have one? No even a single enemy or action performed by me the player and already soft-locked
kablahrz Jun 9, 2018 @ 4:08pm
> If that is not the tutorial then I guess this game doesnt have one?

It does not. If Crux were showing-up, you'd find a tutorial isn't needed. It's OJT (on-the-job training).

Spoiler alert... At that first obstacle, Crux would just be instructing you in how to access your spell palette, and suggesting you toss a fireball at the barricade.

The newly published manual can provide instructions, but it wouldn't be needed if Crux weren't AWOL.

none of the buttons for that and grabbing the spellbook does not work becuase he has yet to explain it. the very definition of a tutorial
While it is true that I am not thrilled with a not hold your hand kind of game in VR, since it can lead to some serious frustration, I still think I am going to buy this and torture myself a bit. Summoning magic in VR is the worse too. I am not a fan of real magic sims in VR. I guess they had no time to actually add training in the game? Or a real practice tutorial? Its on sale so I guess I'll bite for the graphics. It looks pretty. I just hope I can get through it. :botglasses:

I had the very same issue. Tried to break the wall with the sword over and over and the sword always just flies around and despawns like a glitched object. The imp never showed up for me to tell me about the magic spell I apparently already know so I had to consult youtube on the matter. Really poor first impression but luckily it gets better from there even though I am not thrilled about the "lock on" mechanic.
