Shadow of the Tomb Raider

SotTR state of multiGPU (both DX12 and 11 for amd users)
Dear Nixxies,

As a great fan of what you and square managed to accomplish with the reboot of the tomb raider series i have 1 burning question

The earlier installments all had stellar Multi GPU scaling allowing me to run Tombraider 2013 at near 4k maxed settings, RIse at 1400P max and well Shadow of the tumbraider at i dont know yet SINCE DX12 MultiGPU doesnt seem to be working under AMD hardware

at keast so it seems in the trail version,
As i did with previous installments i just started the game rushed to the graphics options and well did what every tech enthousiast does... Run the game's benchmark. however to my great disgust according to task manager my 2nd GPU doesnt seem to be doing anything at all and im getting performance which indicates that only my first R9 290 is doing any work...

Could anyone please clear up this situation - ive tried multiple resolutions, Exclusive fullscreen and just fullscreen heck i've even tried windowed mode all with little to no results.

am i missing something here or did shadow just miss the gravy train of crazy good optimization?

Willing to give dx11 a chance even though i know it gives texture popping issues where as dx12 doesnt i decided to give DX11 a whirl only to find out that on AMD's latest drivers there still is no dedicated Crossfire profile Forcing me to tinker with several Crossfire modes Where forcing the RIse of the Tomb Raider profile eentually yield activity on my 2nd GPU comparable to that of AFR compatible However this doesnt net me any performance Gain, wheras the AFR friendly mode does but comes with insane flickering

Again im really willing to buy this game but not at the cost of having to buy a GTX1070 as a bare minimum whilst not losing performance in games where Crossfire/multiGPU does work properly to actually get somewhat playable framerates at decent settings

I know this is supposed to go in tech support HOWEVER steam is giving me Error15 on the forums ><

Inb4 someone asks
Ryzen 1700 @ 3.8ghz rock stable been running like this since March 2017
16gigs of ram
R9 290 in 2way crossfire

I know i could play the game at medium high settings 1080P as is but given the fact that previous installments and the game engine shouldnt have changed TOO much from rise i find it rather unacceptable that where previous games had near perfect multi GPU scaling this one seems to have 0 to negative scaling for me...

Bump, No love for Crossfire?

DX11 has no SLI or Crossfire support. DX12 AFR has issues with AMD MGPU with Shadows enabled. DX12AFR SLI seems to be running fine.

I own seveal setups with crossfire VEGA 64's, Crossfire FURYX, Crossfire 290X's, SLI GTX 1080TI's

I know your pain. Seems there's a memory leak with shadows enabled with AMD gpu's

Still broke:

Please consider taking the following action:

You can open a ticket with Square Enix, but I don't think that will actually do anything (they'll have you jump through hoops and then blame Microsoft):

https://support.na.square-enix.com/contact.php?id=18201&la=1

You can open a ticket with AMD, who will be slightly more helpful:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form

Please do file a report against the AMD drivers:

http://www.amd.com/report

Also, look in your the 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' folder in your Documents folder. There should be a 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider.log' file. At the bottom of that should be a reference to a .mdmp file something like this :

00:17:40:606 (00010988) > [Crash] Created minidump at "C:\Users\8-fingered\Documents\Shadow of the Tomb Raider\Shadow of the Tomb Raider-v1.0 build 291.0_64 2019-04-24-00-17-40.mdmp".

Please upload the .log and .mdmp file to some sort of file sharing service and post a link where Nixxes will see it. Hopefully someday they'll fix this.

So Nixxes is now saying action is needed from AMD to get this fixed:

Everybody with this problem please open a ticket:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form

...and file a report against the drivers:

Still broke as of driver 19.7.2, not even mentioned as a known issue in the release notes. Now that Navi is out I doubt Vega will get much attention, so this will probably never be fixed.

Interestingly I just got a used 290X to try crossfire with a few games. It worked fine in this game until I updated the drivers because I wanted a better performance increase. I was only getting about 25-30% increased FPS before. So possibly rolling back to old drivers will fix the problem? Sadly I do not know which drivers I had... But it was something from 2018 : /

People have reported it working with pre-Vega hardware (though I think it's broke for Navi, too), but I have no idea what driver versions they were using. I tried the oldest available on the AMD support website for a vega 56, 18.11.X I think. Didn't work.

I did dig up old drivers. I had 18.8.1 and 18.9.1. Works fine now. Actually get about 50% better FPS. I'm guessing that's older that Vega tho? Looks like Sept 2018

Thanks for the info! I'll pass that along in my next trouble report, but please:

Open a ticket

and file a file a report against the drivers

It turns out this is actually just a problem the game devs don't want to fix.

Yea, I ended up getting rid of my multi GPU set up. Even Nvidia and AMD aren't doing much support for it anymore. Too niche.

Well, since SOTTR is an Nvidia title, the devs were willing to put in the effort to fix Nvidia mGPU problems. Not so with AMD.

Yea that makes sense. Nvidia paid them to have the logo there, so a bit of extra support is prob warranted. But even Nivida doesn't seem to push SLI anymore.

They seem to be putting some effort into NVLink configurations. At least Unreal Engine has some Nvidia AFR SLI support (thanks to Disney).
