Episode 4: Knots Quest solutions

The Cymmina website explanation for this quest has several inaccuracies, so in order to save anyone who might play this in the future some pain, here are solutions.

Achievements affected

The Cake Was A Lie: Needs "Best possible score"
Like A Hen On A Wire: Needs "Worst possible score"

Scoring

The game seems to track successes and fails per knot.

Best possible score: All successes are needed. There is a tolerance of 1 non-success. I expect this means Weavers and Volvas (which always fail knot 1) can still get the best possible score.

Worst possible score: All fails are needed. There is a tolerance of 1 non-fail; Huntresses (which always succeed knot 1) can definitely get the worst possible score if they fail everything else.

Knots

Starting by moving down from Jarkko, and moving clockwise around the boat:

Knot 1: "It's one of the biggest ropes. It's in good shape..."

Success: (Redo the knot.) [Huntress]
Fail: (Redo the knot.) [Weaver and Volva]

You must select (Redo the knot.) - The game refuses to proceed until you do.

Knot 2: "The knot of the rope seems to be undone, but still effective."

Success: (Retie the knot.)
Fail: (Do not retie the knot.)

Knot 3: "The rope is in good shape and well attached..."

There is no option here.

Knot 4: "The rope has two knots..."

Success: (Undo only one knot in order to retie it.) then (Next, undo the second knot to retie it.)
Fail (Method 1): (Untie both knots in order to retie them.)
Fail (Method 2): (Do not retie the knot.)

Selecting (Undo only one knot in order to retie it.) followed by (Do not retie the second knot.) seems to count as neither succeeding nor failing.

Knot 5: "This rope is in good condition and well attached..."

There is no option here.

Knot 6: "It's one of the biggest ropes. It's in bad condition..."

It doesn't matter what you select.

Knot 7: "The knot seems partly undone, but still effective."

Success: (Do not retie the knot.)
Fail: (Retie the knot.)

Knot 8: "This rope is in good condition and well attached..."

Success: (Do not retie the knot.)
Fail: (Retie the knot.)

Knot 9: "The rope is in good shape and well attached..."

There is no option here.

There's actually just a failure counter which is increased on failure and decreased only in one special case. That special case is knot 7: you've 33% chance of success in retieing the knot, but if you succeed then the counter is decreased by 1.

Some failures increase the counter by 1, but others, especially those where Jarkko has to intervene, increase it by 2.

If the counter is < 3 at the end it's considered best possible score, if it's > 5 then it's worst possible score.
