Something weird is going on in my game...
So, I have vanilla Skyrim (no mods, no expansions)

I noticed that I'm able to use my weapons while on my horse, which was a feature introduced in Dawnguard. I thought to myself, "That's cool that they patched that feature into vanilla Skyrim".

I was playing a few minutes ago, and outside of Riften I was approached by Durak who spoke with me about joining the Dawnguard. It gave me miscellanious objective to go seek the Dawnguard, but I haven't gone yet. I'll see if it actually lets me do the quest line, but apparently that's what it's letting me do here. Anyone had a similar experience? Or can explain what's going on in my game?

yeah, apparently everyone has dawnguard now. Remember yesterday or the day before, I can't remember which, when we got like a 700mb skyrim update, and there were no patch notes or update info whatsoever? Apparently that was Dawnguard being downloaded.

i didn't get anything for free-my Dawnguard is bought and paid for.

So is mine, and when downloading, saw that it was only 70 MB in size, downloaded fast. There must have been an error in the file, to allow the free DLC.
And now for millions of bugs have been created for our games. How do you all know it was the cpmplete Dawn, not just a major update? And I read there was another update to fix that shortly afterwards. Who is to say if that didn't take away or mess up the game some more. I haven't statrted my game today and I see that there have been 3 DL's . I am assuming one of those to be the one as being Dawngaurd. 700 Megs is not verey big.

One would think that Steam would know who has the DLC and who doesn't, or upon downloading that it would recognize the content and not download it. Or perhaps Steam should contact people with Skyrim and verify whether they have it or not. They could do that in batches, since there are millions of people playing it.
I just got my gaming running quite smooth again, I just don't want it messes up again is all.

Well, even after the update that supposedly fixed this, I still have dawnguard.esm and dawnguard.bsa in my data files. I can still play the expansion normally.

That being said, the store page says that I don't own Dawnguard. Steam can't take away the data files from your computer, but they can take away your licensing to play it. Nothing they can do about it legally, because they basically gave it to us.

They should just release it as a free DLC now. I mean, it's rated really low (it's not that great of an expansion, let's be honest) plus now everyone has it. People that don't even have Skyrim have Dawnguard now.

Anyone that had their steam open with skyrim set to auto update or that started the game in the hour it was free got the expansion. However, being able to attack on your mount was something that has been patched in for a while now without having dawngaurd.

And yes, they took it off being free but as long as you don't delete any files you will be able to play it. If you reinstall however it will be gone. I suggest keeping an old save from prior to the dawngaurd being installed in case something does happen, or you might not be able to load due to it having dawnguard info on it.

Yeah, everyone should know that if you reinstall skyrim, or delete dawnguard for whatever reason, you won't be able to play on your old save file if you took place in any dawnguard content with it.

Still though, make copies of dawnguard.esm and dawnguard.bsa, and put them in the "data" directory of your skyrim folder after you reinstall, and you'll still have dawnguard and be able to use your old save file.

I have completed Dawnguard and have not had any errors, YET. Just going back to Fort Dawnguard after completing a side quest. Interesting.
