Nexus and Steam...
...I don't know how to use the two together. I've already downloaded the Steam Client and would like to download the Nexus Manager too - mainly because I want to be able to download mods on Nexus.

But I don't know how to use both Steam and Nexus simultaneously. I take it they create each their own client/manager launcher, right? How do I use both? Or do I have to chose to use either Steam or Nexus?
..........

PS. I know this is not strictly a Skyrim issue, but I tried to post it on the General forum but couldn't find any 'Start New Discussion' tab or button, so I went here instead - and after all it IS Skyrim I play and Skyrim mods I use, so I figured it'd not be a major problem that I posted my question here.

They do..................Download Nexus Mod Manager from the Nexus page...........download from Nexus Nexus mods and do the same for Steam. Once you have what youu want go and play.

yep, it works really simple. When you install nexus mod manager it will search for where your skyrim is (or you can tell it) and from then on anything downloaded with nmm will be easily installed directly to where it needs to go by clicking install on nmm. Being a steam game, steam already knows where to put your mods, so the result is using both steam and nmm concurrently.

In the end, both use the Skyrim's own data structure, visible at launcher under "Data files." You can use both Workshop and Nexus at the same time.

At Steam, you simply subscribe in to mod and it installs itself at the begining of your next session. It is a simple solution. As a downside it also checks updates at the start of every session, slowing the launch.

Nexus manager allows you to download and activate mods from the Nexus site. I consider it as very practical tool. As a downside you usually have to keep up with the version numbers yourself.

Yes, I get that I download what I want from Nexus from the Nexus site and what I want from Steam I download from the Steam site.

But once I've downloaded these mods from each of the two sites, do I just launch the game from either Steam Client or from Nexus Manager and it doesn't matter which one?

Just launch the game as you normally would. As I said, the basic data structure remains the same.

Ah, I didn't know how to add the Steam downloaded mods to the NMM. Also, I wasn't sure if I had to install manually from Nexus or if it would install itself like it does from Steam. This is great information.

Yes, I noticed Steam downloads and installs everything automatically, and whereas it is very convenient, it also has had me searching a lot in order to find the files since they don't go where I manually put my games and my game mods. This is also the reason I felt a need to know how it works on Nexus in case I'll have to do things manually there. But I realize that once I've registered and downloaded the NMM, it'll download and install pretty much the same way that Steam does.

Thanks a lot, buddy.

True. It's had me limit the number of addons even more than I otherwise would.

By 'version numbers' you mean mod updates?

Okay, so I just launch from the Steam Client, right? That's what I've always done since I never had the NMM.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

That is what I meant. I spend so much time with Simcity 4 modding community that I constantly speak about version numbers of mods.

When your TESV.exe starts, if you have overlay on via steam then it automatically works. No need to do anything else. Both steam and NMM simply run TESV.exe so if there is an issue it's probably from your side, most likely, for sure.

This is a general tutorial for NMM. The same person is also making videos for instructions on how to mod your Skyrim game which you can find at skyrim nexus' first page.

Ah okay, that makes sense. - I've never played SimCity, it just seemed meaningless to me at the time because it was supposed to mimic the so called 'real world' aka the world we live in when we don't play. But I've heard it's become quite interesting with loads of possible 'lives' one can create and 'live'.

This is a great resource. I'll definitely check it out, I'm sure I can learn a lot from this tutorial and the videos. Great work from this guy to be sure. - Thanks for posting it.

Get mod manager then download mods from both as long as the individual mods don't clash it will work fine as all mods will appear in the load order in NMM

Get mod manager then download mods from both as long as the individual mods don't clash
"then download mods from both..."; from both Steam and Nexus? If yes, how do I place mods downloaded (subscribed) from Steam in the NMM? Or does this happen automatically when I download using the NMM as opposed to manually downloading? If yes to the latter, how does it work if I download manually (following the downloading instructions at Nexus)?

"All mods will appear ... in NMM". Does this nclude the mods I download/subscribe to at Steam?

Thanks again for responding.

*) I've had issues with the 'new comments' notification feature, gettiing the notifications but without discussion topics being highlighted; so I've had to go through a lot of discussion topics in order to find those that have new responses for me.

yes every mod you download and install will appear in the mod manager. Just make sure you select download with NMM when getting mods from Nexus and NOT manual download. Steam mods install on thier own so you dont have to do anything but subscribe (they WILL appear in NMM)

lol, I can't remember the last time I let that run. Probably a ticking time bomb or two in there... heh.

Some do require manual installation, and there's nowt wrong with learning a bit on what some of the mods are actually doing. It usually only involves copying the files from a *.zip/*.rar to the Skyrim and Data directories and activating an *.esp in NMM, but looking in that archive at what it is changing/adding can be enlightening.
