There's nice stuff on both platforms, there's just things each has that you won't find on the other, they're both very much worth looking into.
Truth is, though, that after awhile you'll get to the point that you'll have a massive mod list that's impossible to manage. NMM at least makes a good choice on the fact it uninstalls mod files after itself when you remove them (unlike the workshop), so is handy to work with.
Personally I find that most mods I'd like are already on the Nexus, though I have at least ten or twelve (of 106) on the Workshop currently that can't be found anywhere else, and that's fine with me.
