But can horses climb up steep mountains in mount&blade like they can in Skyrim and real life?
NOOOOOOOOOO.
About the topic though, Red Dead Redemption has the best horse animations and overall riding the horse is the best in any game I've played.

This I agree with COMPLETELY...I didn't get much chance to study Assassin's Creed Horse, but that looked good, anyone wanna comment on that one?..
Anyway, Red Dead Horses..Loved em..different colours, speeds, could find them in the wild and make them your own..(through finding that breed unlocking it and then buying the deed) I loved it..the sounds too were gorgeous and yummy crunchy gravel , or dusty sandy dirt..the clippedy clop was divine...The sounds in Skyrim, Vanilla here, are appauling, and the horse is CRAP.
Also, the Stables are s**t..you just buy ONE Horse and that's it..nothing to do there or anything....
I saw a good sound mod endorsed by Gopher on nexus that looks ace..wonder if the horses hooves sound good with that...
Anyway, we need more horses in Skyrim like Red Dead Redemption has......
Yea and they have eight legs a.k.a Sleipnir and not Spiderhorse. Oh wait-
I like Mount & Blade horsies simply because there's nothing better than running 2 metres long lance from the back of your horse through the barbaric golden horde skull - OH SNAP INCOMING ARROWS AHHHHH-
