Disc Read Error (Will not update, will not let me play)

I've tried every thread and problem fix. I verified the game files, I did a disc check on the drive that it's installed on (C:) and tried running Steam in administrator. I've even tried re-installing the game.

I've had the game installed on my computer before and it worked perfectly. I installed one mod which was just the one that gives mudcrabs silly little top hats, monocles, and mustaches.I only uninstalled because I realized I wasn't playing it at all, but now I want to get back into it.

Can anyone figure out what's wrong with it, please?

It is quite possible that this really is a problem with your own HD and not with Steam. It might be just a slight error, or even bad clusters. These are the recommended steps to try.

- Make sure that your game folders are also ran by Administrator rights. Sometimes (though rarely) assigning those rights just for Steam is not enough.

- If this did not work, then delete or remove the folder named "appcache" from your Steam folder. The data in this folder is the usual suspect, when something like this happens. Don't worry about missing a folder, because Steam will generate a new one. Verify your files. Reboot your computer and try to launch the game.

- Scan your HD for Errors: Right click the icon of the drive and select Properties -> Tools. You will find a tool to scan your disk from errors there. (You might check the defragment analysis for possible bad clusters as well. Run the defragment tool, if your computer suggests it.) Once you have ran the check, verify your game files, boot your computer and try to launch the game.

- If your game still doesn't work, then try to install Skyrim in to other location, like under other folder structure or preferably to another drive. You can manage folders from Steam client: View -> Settings - > Downloads -> Content libraries. My own Steam system folder is in C:, but all my Steam games are installed to D:

If none of this works and your computer is fine, then contact directly to Steam support. If you had a lot of bad clusters, then you might have to replace your hard drive with a new one.
