Can't play skyrim
Bought the key through amazon and activated it through steam. I downloaded it and when I start a new game It say something along the lines of WEtrigger myHoldLocation is not set. Then it is nothing but the skyrim symbol, black screen with smoke and the theme playing. Nothing after that. Help?

right click skyrim in library->properties->local files->verify the integretiy...

also, do you have mods installed?
Malice Apr 9, 2014 @ 12:33pm
I did that and it said it failed and nothing happened after that. also no mods.

look for the pinned thread about the unofficial patches. follow its instructions

Just did it and I still have the same problem. Been on hold with Bethesda for over 30 minutes too. Might just torrent a new copy because this is getting ridiculous.

why would you torrent the game if you can just redownload the files via steam...
let steam delete all files, then delete the rest manually.
then reinstall, maybe start steam as admin first

It is unwise to use unlegal copy, because:
- only cracked patches would work with it
- this forum will not provide support for it - and even if we would help, we could not know if our advices would actually work
- Steam fries your account, if you launch the game while client is open.

In short: Patience now will save you from a lot of frustration in the future.

I did that. 3 times. Nothing. And I don't have the best internet so it takes me roughly 9-10 hours to download all 11.2 GBs of it. I'm on my 4th try to delete and reinstall.

And I understand. I'm just getting frustrated after 3 days and no support from Steam or Bethesda. Amazon contacted me within an hour of my inquary but their hands are tied until steam can help me.

something must be wrong with your download. or a previous version, a torrented one, has left its traces...
to get rid of these traces, reinstall your windows. format everything
that will also verify, that your pc is not the issue here...

Why not? Does it matter if you buy it in a shop or from STEAM? Besides that which vendor is besides the question the OP asked.

I saw a thread from ages ago that with someone who also had that error, Apparently installing the Creation Kit sorted it somehow.

Did you try googling this? Either way try the following:
look under appdata/local/skyrim for plugins.txt
see whether skyrim.esm is listed twice. if so, delete one.

Yeah sure you can trust any unknown vendor but I won't. Amazon is full of people (strangers) selling stuff, you don't know if the key is genuine as happened before many times over with fake keys from games and Windows.
