Unofficial Hearthfire patch bug.
Hello fellow players, I have a problem here I could use some help with.

A few days ago I finally got around to installing the unofficial patch for Hearthfire and ever since doing so the two single beds in my main hall are now marked (owned) and the Steward and Housecarl will no longer use them. Before the patch each of them would sleep in one of the beds, and now they both just stand at the foot of the beds all night.

It would seem that the patch has taken these beds from the household staff and set them as owned by the adopted children, even though the children get their own beds in the "bedroom" wing of the house. And besides, I have no children and don't plan to get any so having beds taken from my staff and given to children I don't have is rather annoying.

Is there a way to remove the (owned) status from these two beds in the Hearthfire patch so my house servants will use them again? These two standing at the foot of the bed is bugging me so much I am about to uninstall the patch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some options:

1) Remove the unofficial patch.

2) Make your own mod. Load it up to use Skyrim, Update and Hearthfire.esm.

Move the beds .0001 to the left, right, up or down.

Save the plugin.

Put it after the unofficial patch (not hard to do, since the patches should be way up on the list.)

This should override the modifications from the patch, at least for those beds.

Thanks for the reply. I am afraid however that the position of the beds is not the problem, its the fact they have an (owned) tag on them now in game. Before the patch these two beds did not say (owned) on them when I was in the house. Apparently the patch sets them to be owned by children, so I need to find out how to remove that ownership so that anyone can use them, such as my housecarl and steward.

On a side note, when I try to load Skyrim, Update, and Hearthfire all together it tells me that I have multiple master files selected and won't open them at all.

Is the bed owned if you try to sleep in it?

Try targeting it with the console opened and type setownership

That will set the player as the owner of the targeted item.
Find the name of the cell from UESP or whatever Wiki site and use the Ownership Console Command. No idea why it's doing that though.

Have you set the overrides like BOSS tells you to?
You should post here and talk directly to the guy compiling the patches.

For me I can say that when I build my house (Pale) the beds were owned from the begining too, but my steward use one them until I adopted my first child. Then never again.

Nononono >.<

It's how mods work.

Skyrim can only use one mod's alterations to any one object at a time.

Position and ownership (last I checked) are part of the same system for any one bed.

So if you have a mod that alters the position of the bed slightly (not enough to notice) and you load it after the patch, then the patch's alterations to the bed will be ignored.

It's like... If you have a mod that altered Lydia's appearance a ton. But if you put a mod under that which, for instance, changed Lydia's name, then the appearance modifications would all go away. The mod with the name change would win out if it's below, and all the appearance changes from the other mod get ignored.
Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Mine never said owned until I installed the patch, and when I remove the patch the beds start working again and have no owned tag anymore.

I have no mods that change anything but some graphics. The beds all worked fine until I installed the unofficial hearthfire patch, then the house staff stopped using them. I am currently starting a new game and going to console myself some gold etc, to build a new house and see if its still bugging when I get my steward. This way I can make sure it isn't just bugged from installing the patch mid game.

That's why I told you to make your own mod that slightly alters the beds. It'll remove the effects from the Patch.

But someone before suggested console commands. If there is one, use that.
~S~

Remember tthat ALL unofficial patches HAVE to have the Unoffcial Skyrim patch as well. Make sure you have the up to date unofficial patch for skyrim installed as well

Ahh I see, I was misunderstanding you. I will see if I can do that, my modding skills have been limited to swapping graphics so far. I will see if I can move the beds a tiny bit and save it as a new mod.

And AC_Black, I do have the unofficial patch for Skyrim as well, and have it in order before the hearthfire patch. I don't have the other DLC's or the patches for them.

It occurs to me that you can double check to see if it's the patch's fault.

Just untick the mod and see if it reverts the beds back. No harm done, unless you save the game without the mod and keep playing. (and also assuming that the patch is one of those mods that is damaging if you remove it mid-play :P)

The game doesn't notice it if you remove a mod and put it back, so long as you don't save between those steps :P

I did try disabling the mod, and the beds work fine again, and the (owned) marker is no longer on them. When I turn it back on, the (owned) tag appears on both beds and they become unusable by the steward and housecarl.

Just to be clear, these are the two single beds in the upstairs part of the main hall. I do not have the extra bedroom wing built on the house.

I was going to try doing a new game and rebuilding the house with some consoled gold just to see if a new game would fix it, but I cannot get the console to give me the jarl's "kill the giant" quest in order to buy the land, so that was a no go.
Thanks a bunch guys for all the help, looks like the problem has been solved.

I tried what you said Adura and made a mod that has the two beds moved a tiny bit, and it removed the (owned) tags and now the staff will sleep in them again!

One final question if you would be so kind. When I put the mod in with the beds moved, it only changes things in relation to those two beds right? All other stuff that is added by the Unofficial Hearthfire patch will remain unchanged I assume? Sorry if this is a silly question, I am rather unlearned when it comes to how these mods work within the game.

It only changes the stuff you changed, which in this case are those 2 specific (instances of) beds. The rest of the patch is unaffected by your mod. It will alter any other changes they made to those (instances of) beds. But there isn't much there to alter. Mainly position, ownership, linked refs (the things you see when you open up the bed's properties in the Creation Kit :P).

I wouldn't worry 'bout it. (and I assume the patch doesn't change many of those things.)

edited lots >.< I'm not good at explaining mod things to people who don't already know what I'm talking about D:

Thanks a bunch Adura, you have been a great help. If I can get it working with my poor modding knowledge, then I would say you did a plenty good enough job of explaining what to do.

Alkpaz, its definately seems to be a problem with the patch. Once I get a chance to play through from a new game I will know for sure if this is a bug with the patch or just something to do with the mid game install. Then if it turns out to be a bug I will contact the mod makers.

Thanks very much for the help!
