[HF] Bedrooms expansion - What's the sense of it???
The first thing I thought when I purchased my first HF house was:
What's the point of having 9 expansions if combos are already decided?

At least 2 of those I'd put together are in the same side (armoury and kitchen), while the ones at north are barely useful -at least to me- (there's no point for such a huge storage when you already have plenty of furnishing spread in the main hall; I don't feel like the alchemy tower would be comfortable to use, I prefer fast and easy-to-access furnishing, to a huge amount of useless space and an alchemy table at the second floor;), I'd have gladly changed the trophy room with one of those above, or even library.. (why the **** is there only 1 bookshelf in the whole house?? wasn't it sensible to have one in the lounge too??)
Finally the west side.. I guess skyrim's features are too many, or maybe just not much compatible with my playstyle, but I can't find myself playing all, thus making totally useless to me having the arcane tower, while I was also fine planting in the dirt outside the house (anyway there're not so many kind of herbs in skyrim, compared to previous titles, and no one would be using all of them since depends on what kind of character you are playing.. PLUS, the most rare ingredients are not herbs, so can't be planted at all.), so the only option left is the bedroom, which could be nice to make the house comfortable to my child (roleplay), but then I think -with all the nonsense about the rest of the house, this is probably the top-...

Why would someone need 6 beds in total?? Is there a practical use for them at least?? (Since you can't remove the old beds and put something else)

Moral of the story: if by "modular homes" they intended a huge house (just for the sake of having an estate) with a shameful amount of wasted space, since you need to select contents in spite of other contents, and you can't even decide to move or remove an item to make a more intelligent use of the whole pattern, thus endind to have 2x the same things in the same house, I think I was already much FINE with the smaller town houses that were compact and had a bit of everything in them.

(Sorry for the almost-review, and feel free to add your opinion if you like, this is a discussion board!)

Let's see... 1 for steward, 1 for housecarl, 1 DB for husband and wife, 2 for children = 5. 1 for UFO follower and 1 coffin for Serana.

I think we need more beds...

So, let me guess, if I don't build the bedroom and have 2 children, I can't have a steward?
If I have a steward and a child I can't have an housecarl or follower living inside my house?

(leaving aside the fact that I didn't decide yet who to put as steward, as I didn't meat many of them, even after almost 200 hours...)

PS: Coffin will be in the basement..

I guess you can have steward and housecarl without beds. They just don't sleep. It means that they will just stand there and do absolutely nothing. Both will require a bed to keep up with they schedule.

You don't need children for other personal.

Children are just for the sake of roleplay.. I only have a female right now, she finds me rare alchemy ingredients sometimes..

I was wondering, if I decided to use the bedroom, who would've used the other beds, as they can't be removed..

How much staff can you have and what's each's role? (apart the steward)
What does "absolutely nothing" mean? Do you mean they won't even do their tasks (hiring a bard, selling horses etc)?

Yeah, I think I'll be trying BYOH mods in my next game.
I wish I was able to simply build one with the editor.. :)

Steward and Housecarl would use those 2 beds at left (when looking from a door) hand side of the upstairs. No one will use the right hand side bed, unless you have used other mods to allow other characters to live with you. Basically the bed could be used by the bard, but I have never seen her to use it.

By "not doing anything" I mean that they will either wander around the house whole nigth, or just stand there and not to do a thing. Their voice files options are intact, but Lydia and Gregor just spent their nights standing on the door and watching me to sleep - AI wanted the bed, I guess. They finally left, once I managed to build beds for them.

It's clear now, thanks :)
Another question about the housecarl: can you select the one you like from the ones given when you become thane of the various towns? Or is it a fixed one for each manor? Even better if you can hire a random follower to become it... I was thinking of Lydia as steward, but this point I'd reduce the possibilities when deciding for a housecarl, I suppose.

Housecarl is fixed, I am affraid. It's okay, because HD housecarls have very little communication with thane. You will be dealing with your steward. Let Gregor, or who ever you get, to patrol the grounds and make sure that you like your steward.

Lydia might have not been the best choice for a steward. Her vanilla behavior didn't quite benefit from HF environment. I benefitted from her strong arm and steel armor, though. Family life isn't exactly peace and quiet in Skyrim...

I built the lakeview manor, will the housecarl be the one you get becoming Falkreath's thane? Otherwise I have no idea how to hire it, nor I have how I'll get him patrolling the surroundings, I'll find this out I suppose. :D

And yes, I definitely want someone I like as a steward, I was thinking of Lydia ONLY because she may be strong to defend the house, but if that can be achieved by the housecarl, I'd prefer the steward stays at home and out of any possible danger... What do you think about Vilkas? Who would you advice? I read this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers , but while I didn't meet yet most of them, the others I've just talked with.. I don't know which AIs would be best fitting the steward role...

I actually have that problem as well - or would, if FNIS would properly work with MO right now. I was actually thinking Illia. She spends her days in that horrbile tower and is rarely used by anyone.

She isn't a good follower for my character, because of her wide frost spells. Those same spells that annoy me so much in the wilderness would actually be perfect while she would be guarding my yard or a door.

I like having a mage as steward, alongside a fighter housecarl (which obv the housecarls are all fighters). There's a pretty cool (if slightly creepy, I guess) mage in a ruin near (I think) Riften who I like, just don't take any followers into the ruin when you first meet her, as IME they usually end up killing her by mistake. I believe there's a bit of a bug with some of the mercenaries who supposedly can become stewards, sometimes they don't even have the dialogue option to offer them the job, but when I had that problem I read up on it and it turned out to be just as well, because a lot of people who hire e.g. Marcurio as steward find he doesn't have the dialogue options to do the various jobs for you (like buy a carriage, sort out furnishings etc). Probably best to save before you ask whoever to be your steward, in case you have a similar problem.

Yes, the Lakeview housecarl is the one you are 'given' for becoming Thane of Falkreath, she's pretty cool, a Redguard who dual wields curved swords. Curved. Swords. *tone of wonder* Just as with Lydia (once you buy Breezehome) the HF housecarls have the relevant house set as their home, so if they're not acting as your follower they'll live there and defend it as necessary.

Yeah she seems good for that role.. if the steward must be exposed to dangers, at least I'd want a not squeezy one.. I definitely hate when a npc dies, specially if I've choosen it carefully! (and since all of them have unique traits)
If I also marry up with someone, and the guy is a warrior, I'd even have a third defender...

I thought the bedrooms were kinda useless, considering there's a double bed on one side of the main hall and two twins on the other side. I've also said elsewhere that it bugs me that you can't put any expansion on any wing when they all use the same exterior model. Ie the library, enchanter's tower, and the alchemy tower look exactly alike. Why can't the library be on the north wing instead of the alchemy tower, etc. The storeroom, armory, and bedrooms all have the same exterior model so why can't the bedroom be on the east wing? It's obviously not a facing concern.

Right now I have Lakeview and Windstad, I haven't gotten the one in Dawnstar yet. Simply because of a...misunderstanding...with a traveling merchant and some bandits in that Hold. I do wish the NPCs had enough sense to stay out of the path of swinging swords...
