is there a mod to prevent crashing, or is skyrim that unstable

Mods are most likely cause of crashing. Updating SKSE to version 1.7 (curren alpha) can help a bit, but that does not do a thing for constant crashing.

Skyrim is not that unstable. You might have bad save or conflicting mods in your game. I am running with a large amount of mods, without any CTDs.

Run BOSS for Skyrim and see if there are warnings. Make sure that there are no multiply mods affecting to same game properties and that you have all required mods installed for other mods. You can also activate your Papyrus log and see what happens right before CTD.

I would drop links and instructions, but I need to get to work. Info for BOSS, SKSE and Papyrus should be easy to find trough seach engines, though.

Make sure that you have installed the "Unofficial Patches." I think there's a sticky link for those, here. IIRC, they can help with certain crashes.

As Ref indicated, modding is the most likely source of crashes. That's especially true of saved games that have scripts running in them. If you're going to uninstall a mod, try to deactivate its scripts in game. Then, save that game and only then uninstall the mod. It helps to know as much about the mods you're using as possible, as well. Read up on them.
