Boss, the most confusing program ever?
I recently installed BOSS after seeing the countless posts on threads and stuff and how good it is. I tried it and the process was much shorter then i thought it would be. A little, to short. A black box opened up in the left hand corner saying stuff like updating skse, formatting mod load order, blah blah blah.

Then my google chrome opened up taking me to some sort of BOSS page telling me a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo about my load order and unrecoginized plugins, and a whole bunch of other stuff that i couldn't make sense of. So, my question is. What do i do after it takes me to that page? Do i wait a couple of minutes for something to happen, did it finish it's work and show me the results, or did it just tell me how to fix my load order. I installed BOSS because i've been having very frequent crashes(every 1 hour or so). Any help would be appreciated.

No,

First there's the summary page - that tells you what you load order is *now* (BOSS just changed it) how many plugins you have the BOSS recognized (it doesn't know all of the mods in existence - the list is getting larger but its a community updated project) how many it *doesn't recognize (get put at the end of your load order in alphabetical order so you really need to pay attention to these to sort out any remaining comflicts).
And, finally, it will tell you how many simple problems it detected and how many critical problems.

The next page is SKSE plugins - this is mainly to see if the SKSE plugins are installed properly - if you see your SKSE plugin here, its installed correctly.

The third page is known plugins. BOSS will sort these according to its heuristics but that's simply going to keep the game from crashing. Some plugins will change the same thins and the plugin lower down in the load order *wins* that conflict. Which means you need to have an idea of what your plugins do and which one you want to win if they modify the same stuff.

It will also show you things like plugins that have dirty edits. Don't go around fixing these willy-nilly. Some of those dirty edits are needed for the plugin to work. If you aren't sure or are not willing to spend a lot of time re-installing the game, ignore this.

Same with the yellow warnings.

Red Warnings you need to play attention to - typically they denote that you're missing files that that plugin needs to work. Game will crash if you have plugins without their required masters.

Also - you may see notes letting you know that a particular plugn is obsolete and should be replaced with a different one.

Last page is Unknown Plugins. THis is a list of the installed plugins that BOSS doesn't recognize. It will simply load these in alphabetical order with no further information on them.
Clearly the OP has never used Lotus Notes.

I have no idea what Lotus Notes is Bear. When i ran the test thing, it said i had three unknown plugins; immersive armors, immersive hud, and 72 hours respawn time. Should i worry about those? I have all the dlc and all the mods the other mods require. This thread was pretty much to ask to get some insight on BOSS and if it works better then me just manually sorting my mods because that's gotten to be a quite easy thing to do.
If the game works, then no.

If it CTD's at the logo then that's the first place to look for problems.

The game works just fine, no crashes at the logo, etc. I'm going to try it now to see how long it takes before it crashes.

Lotus Notes, now IBM Notes was one of the first commercially available email management programs. It was kind of like Outlook but really, really user unfriendly; to the point that it sticks in my mind nearly 25 years later as one of the most confusing applications I have ever had to use. So, it was a joke. Apologies.

Now, go install SKSE v1.7 to eliminate those CTD's.

I already have SKSE installed.
Do you have v1.7 - there's a memory patch included with that one that isn't in the earlier versions. That memory patch makes the game a bajillion times more stable.

It is my experience that, while BOSS is useful to help prevent unneeded conflicts, it is not the magical 100% crash preventer that some think it is.

If you still get frequent crashes with BOSS and SKSE, it means that you either:
1) have mods that still conflict BADLY with other mods.
2) Have mods in need of 'cleaning' to remove some conflicts.
3) Just have 1+ really unstable mods.

Hmm, i'll check to see what version of skse i have. I remember installing it i don't know how many months ago. The only mod that i think could be unstable is the 72 hour respawn mod because i had some trouble installing it through nmm.
Its not jusst mods - the base game like to CTD a lot. Skyrim is really bad at memory management.

How do i check my SKSE version? Also, i've oonly gotten one or two crashes when i played Skyrim without mods which was probably my first 30 hours in the game.
Adura 13. Feb. 2014 um 16:09
well, what kind of crashes are you having?
Are they just random or do they happen after a certain amount of time? (or when you do certain things. Or when you're in combat only, or outdoors only?)

Can you give us a mod list? We might be able to easily spot ones that are unstable from our experience.

edit: It's true that skyrim does crash even at it's most vanilla, but that's infrequent.

I get an awful lot of stuttering. Most of the crashes is because it stutters and then just stops responding all together. I'll try to put my entire mod list here, is there any fast way other then copying everything down just by looking at it?
