Wife kidnapped bug

So I have the heartfire dlc and I returned home to lakeview manor which is my house and there is a bandit attacking my childen and horse. I kill her and she has a ransom note which says that my wife has been kidnapped and I am given the quest to go and rescue her. The quest auto completes before I can even reach the objective making it impossible to complete. What do I do?

You have all DLCs, so use the Legendary Edition (USLEEP).

It is also available from Skyrim Workshop. However, Workshop is bugged. You can install this from Workshop, if you wish, because you can replace it with Nexus version, if the Workshop bug hits. Be careful with other Workshop mods though.

Ah, I saw the purple "DLC" text and mistook it as Skyrim DLC. Use older individual patches instead then. They are no longer getting updates, but most important problems are fixed in them.

I hope these patches will fix this problem so I can actually get to my wife. Skyrim has it all, good storyline, awesome combat and interesting characters but the problem is that the game is so damn buggy.
