3D Space explorer. Dogfighting is flying close and clicking on target. There is energy management between Engine, Shield and Weapons. Weapon system is like those mobile game ads where you drag and drop several guns onto random parts of the ship. The firepower you can output is based on the size of the ship.
Other gameplay includes text based landing missions. Choose Your Own Adventure style, with occasional skill based dice rolls.
Finished the tutorial and lost interest.

This was a long, twisting and turning, INTENSE story, much more involved than one usually finds in this kind of game. It's practically a sci-fi novel. Sure, it's over the top at times and takes obvious inspiration from a certain movie franchise, but by the end I was unable to put it down. The thrilling cinematic space battles are also thoroughly enjoyable, especially when facing overwhelming numbers and annihilating them. But be aware before you buy this that you're likely to spend more time reading than fighting overall.

One downside to consider: this doesn't really qualify as a "sandbox". There are a few side quests and activities, but they run out or become irrelevant in the first half of the game, as if the developers ran out of money. Most of the focus is on the linear story. So I wish there were even more world building, but what they did build is still impressive.

A mixed experience but I could recommend it to fans of space games like Freelancer as it does a good job of letting you feel like a captain without being too heavy on micromanaging controls like some others in the genre, and there aren't enough. Before this one I would also recommend Rebel Galaxy, Galaxy on Fire 2, Starpoint Gemini series, or Everspace.
