How Did I Go Bankrupt So Fast?
I created 6 pr 7 games, had hired staff, had made over $2 million, and every game was making a profit, then all of a sudden went bankrupt, had to borrow money, but went out of business really fast. About the only thing I can think of was I signed up to go to a convention but did not have a game ready in Sept. - I was making a new game and thought it would be ready but it wasn't. Next month went bankrupt. What happened???

It was not hard to work around, just unexpected.

A clear indicator on the price being MONTHLY and not TOTAL would be fine. No other game of the same genre does this (as far as I know), so a hint might be needed for that. :-)

Sorry for the delay, since v0.25.0, development cost as been fixed.

conventions costs a set amount of money, depends on how big your stand is.
creating your own convention costs more.
if you do not have a game ready, does not matter, you pay a set amount, for signing up.
that are the only costs involved.

tip:
switch to low wage people, and low rent studios, that is why i got bankrupt.......
big games costs more money, but also more time, which means more wages and rent to pay.
a normal game can easily cost 500k to make.
also workers can range from 1-2k to 50k a month, could be even more.
if you want to save money, check rent and wages.
or buy the studio,so you wont have to pay rent, but that costs around 10 mill for the cheapest.

Most likely you did not notice that games price is deducted PER MONTH, not once.

All the games I know in this genre give you a total cost and you can judge if paying wages will work out. City Game Studio seems to deduct the full price each month.

I have lost a game with 2 digit millions in the bank, after starting a bigger game with a smaller crew. I went down almost 1 mil per month and did not realize why.

Making a bigger game cost more because you earn more than an indie game. So making a big game in the early 80's is risky, and a safe strategy would be to work with competitor. The competitor will pay for the game development. It is called "trade-publishing" and it's been balanced with v0.24.0. I suggest you to try it out ;-)
