Bartholomeus - The biggest c**t in Pythiums History
Sure, what Putrescator did to Ermor was a♥♥♥♥♥♥move, bringing the ashen empire into existance.(which stomped me in my first ever game of dominions so they hold a special place in my heart)

However, what Bartholomeus just did to me now, Putrescator cannot hold a candle too.

So there they stand, the bulk of the Abysian offensive. 400 strong against my 250. Out numbered in men we are, but they are out classed in magic power. As the battle starts, communions go up. Rain, thunder and lightning meets them as my battle lines hold firm. Scores of the firey bastards go down in the first volley. Their hellish fire magics cause little to no damage in the storm that raged. Victory seemed within my grasp... Until... The 6th stage of the battle. As though posessed by some sort of deamon or it could have been through a fit of stupidity. Bartholomeus, with victory in sight, casts blink. Within mere seconds, Theurgs are scattered through out the enemys battle lines with clear results, and the battle is lost. Curse you Bartholomeus, may the Ashen Empire take you and make you watch your actions for eternity!

Just thought I'd share...

and remember

♥♥♥♥ Bartholomeus

Blink the unwanted spell

This happened to me as well when we were defending a fort. Some mages casted blink and teleported themselves to the other side of the wall to get hammered.

I think one thing that effectively covers up the lack of a real AI is the random effects you can see from spellcasting like this.

If there were some kind of "Never Cast" spell list or maybe a "only cast these spells after your script is done" list you could define a lot of battles would play out very differently.

I'm curious, what were the blinking mages' default orders set to? I almost always set mine to cast spells, and I've never seen any cast blink, so I'm wondering if they only do it when set to advance and cast or if they have no default order.

Touch of Madness is like this too. I've had so many mages suddenly get filled with the urge to run out and melee something because some N1 thought it was a good idea to cast this.

I pretty much always do cast spells as well and they have never cast blink either.

My understanding is that the blink spell happens because that mage has no other spells they can cast, and so casts blink to get into range to cast other spells. You can counter them casting blink by researching thaum 2 for 100 research points, which should give your mages mind burn(and horror mark isn't good for some reason) which is a very long ranged spell. You'd still want the evocation spells to deal damage at shorter ranges though.
