Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

SteamVR not working with Samsung Odyssey
Hey all, I have a Samsung Odyssey headset and a Vive. My Vive works perfectly, but I wanted to try the Samsung. I set it up in the Mixed Reality Portal and it works perfect in there, but any time I try to play anything with SteamVR, it just doesn't work. I hear audio, which makes me think the program is running, but the headset stays at the loading screen and SteamVR says that it isn't responding.

I have no idea what the issue is, and it doesn't work in any SteamVR applications. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows Mixed VR software, uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR, and trying beta versions of SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR.

The only thing that I've noticed that seems weird is when SteamVR is launched, in the settings, on the left side, Compositor is in red.

Any suggestions?

Oh, and for further info, the Odyssey and the monitor are both plugged into my GPU
You can have a look at my guide on reddit, it may help you.

I suspect that having both headsets make Steam VR confused. Maybe it's searching for the Vive and cannot find it.
microsoft has an article about how to use multiple headsets in Steam VR on their website :

I’ve read that the Vive drivers may interfere. Could look into uninstalling those as a troubleshoot.

I uninstalled all the Vive drivers, uninstalled SteamVR, and reinstalled SteamVR without touching or doing anything with the Vive afterward and I'm still having the same issue. I looked at that article about using multiple headsets and it basically just said "if you're using different headsets, be sure to unplug your Windows MR device before using a different headset"

it maybe a bug from SteamVR itself, the way it handles the headsets. SteamVR updates are very fast, and can break things sometimes. Mostly, SteamVR isn't designed to be used with several HMD in mind... so they might broke some things during updates. Did you try to use the SteamVR beta ?
I'm not sure Microsoft or WMR platform is to blame here. It seems a Valve problem

Start the SteamVR by the "Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR" shortcut, not the regular SteamVR,

Yeah, I've tried both with and without the beta, same thing both times. And I just tried using the Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR shortcut instead of the regular one, and the exact same thing happened.

For the record, I can get into the initial room where you select your game and all that just fine. It's when I try to open any game or other application that it just acts like it's loading forever, but I can hear the audio as though the application is running just fine. If I let it sit too long it brings up the steam page thing for the game, telling me how long I've played it, etc. and at the bottom it shows the game/application and says "waiting" with the little animation like it's loading

Were you ever able to get this resolved? I recently picked up a Lenovo Explorer and it worked great on one computer, but I decided to move it to another with very similar specs and I have the same results as you. Audio but an empty room with the application 'waiting'. The SteamVR room works just fine as does the Windows mixed reality room. Just when launching any game is the problem.

Sadly no, I haven't figured it out at all yet, but I was able to narrow it down a bit more, I found out my Vive doesn't work either anymore, so I'm thinking the problem might actually be in SteamVR... I posted there too, hopefully I get something figured out, if I do I'll message you

sometimes the compositer is red for me to on my samsung. I fix it by making sure there is plenty of light in the room.

Also before you start steamvr, put on the headset and open up the cliffhouse and do the look side to side thing then steamvr should work

After doing a bit of experimenting last night, I found a combination that works.
My video card (1050 Ti) has 3 outputs; DVI, HDMI & DisplayPort. I originally had the HDMI hooked to a receiver that went to the TV. I'd heard that several headsets don't like adapters so I plugged it into the HDMI and moved my receiver over to the DP port (via an adapter). That's when I had the issue described above.
I took out the DP connection completely and hooked up a DVI cable to a monitor and left the HDMI to the headset and everything worked.
So now I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable to the receiver for video only and trying to get sound working again.
Don't know if that will help you at all (or made sense).
TL;DR: HDMI+DP=not working; DVI+HDMI=working

Just started having issues with my WMR Samsung Odyssey after the last Steam VR update.

It will initially launch games from my steam account in VR but after 30secs the games crashes and I get dumped into the WMR home portal (cliffhouse/sky loft).

I've reinstalled steam VR and double checked my drivers are up to date. Not sure whats going on or how to fix it.

so now in 2020, is there any way to fix this at all?

I solved it with making and increasing size of pagefile to 8 gb.
