Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

Windows 1903 and blurriness
A number of users have reported issues with blurriness after upgrading to Windows 1903. Unfortunately we didn't see this in insider flighting and in our private testing.

We have investigated and the underlying issue here is part of the Windows release, and not contained in the WMR for SteamVR package. We've tracked down the issue and have a fix ready, and are working on getting it released as a Windows update. Doing this means it takes a few weeks as Windows updates ship on a regular schedule.

If you have already updated to 1903, please know that we are actively looking into workarounds to address the issues here.

If you haven't updated to 1903 just yet, you may want to wait for this to be fixed.

thanks for the update

i have no option to roll back to 1809 now, i find it very worrying as i've just joined this platform that even if a fix is found i have to wait weeks to get it, i know it's out of your hands probably but that kinda kills my confidence in WMR

Thanks for the udpate. Also, please look at improving vector reprojection and moving out of beta adding options to enable it or disable it in the VR menu. This is the only thing that doesn't work properly IMO.

Thanks for looking at it and the acknowledgement. Happy to try any workarounds in the interim as keen to update to 1903 and having held off after rolling back.

Will you be addressing the problem of the tilted image that some of us have experienced with 1903?

@dconti_msft "a few WEEKS"!? WTF!? Put this up as an optional downloadable hotfix better today than tomorrow. In a few weeks we might have forgotton WMR ever existed.

hey everyone: if you want it a bit faster Try setting yourself to insider program for just drivers and hotfixes (not the next version of windows) and you're more likely to get the fix sooner.

Windows is then spying on you. Not nice to have. They should release a special fix. Hundreds of thousands of people bought WMR device and have bad VR experience since several weeks. Waiting another few weeks is not good. Should be a single KB fix.
A serious disappointment. With all the SteamVR/SteamVR for WMR/WMR reality bugs in the past year I am definitely looking elsewhere for my next HMD. The fact that Microsoft is either unable or unwilling to quickly patch this issue quickly is just ridiculous.

Welcome, all new $650 HP Reverb owners!!!!!!!

As a consumer, I hate the wait and delay. As someone who works at a company with established policies... I sadly understand their position.

WMR development is an MS side project and not a revenue generator. Windows Updates have a set time schedule for introduction, testing and deployment. Sure, the testing failed this time. But VR is not a mission critical issue and MS will not deviate from the schedule to accommodate it.

Most large companies operate like methodical machines. You work within the structure as I'm sure the WMR developers do. Trying too hard to get special attention for your comparingly small department is not always a good way to climb the corporate ladder.

I am just grateful there is a plan in place and that MS continues to fund WMR development. I want them to continue and I want to see WMR succeed. Thank you for the update and hope you find a way to deploy it soon!

It doesn't make any sense at all that platform specifics fixes are tied to OS upgrades. If Valve and Oculus can work without OS upgrades and updates there really isn't any excuse. Super lame that we have to wait 6 months for small upgrades and stupid fixes.

Is not revenue generating project for Microsoft? If this is the case it is only because of Microsoft. Only Steam VR makes this platform alive and great. Microsoft had nothing to offer from the beginning. Microsoft, a software company did not create any game for it. Microsoft has billions of US dollars of revenue and they can't afford to have a team of 10-20 people to work on a few environments like Cliff-house, fixing bugs immediately? Such a big corporation and at least a few employees should monitor this forum, report and fix next day. It is Microsoft which lured Asus, Samsung and other big companies into this platform and then abandoned it on the next day. This is totally unserious. Hundreds of thousands of WMR headsets were sold and this is only the beginning. Microsoft could have lots of money from WMR, but once US army put some money on table, they abandoned a parallel platform and closing WMR studio in Germany. Stupid company seriously. I hope Samsung will create its own platform, compatible with Steam VR and remembers how Microsoft treats the customers of Samsung and other companies. MS does not deserve any company to invest in MS ideas and any people to put their money into this anymore. A bunch of amateurs. Bill, come back to Microsoft, fire that nerd from India. He does not know how to manage company and is only harming Microsoft and its customers.

Hi dconti, I didn't notice the blurriness bug when update to 1903, but I use the visor mainly for sims and was extremely dissapointed to see that with the 60hz mode enabled I get a reduced FOV. There are sims where we never are going to get even steady 45 fps and a lot of people use the 60 Hz mode to get a smooth experience with only 30 fps, why you don't let the user to choose if we want a full or reduced fov ? I was looking to buy the HP reverb but this stop me. Can you ask to make an option of this ?

Thanks
