Future Sable's Grimoire games/content
Warning

This thread contains spoilers for the main Sable's Grimoire game. So if you haven't played it yet, you might not want to read on.

It also contains mild spoilers for some of the yet to be released content. Those will be placed in spoiler tags.

Overview

Since SG's initial release we've seen new routes, new endings, and even sequels.

So, what comes next?

TL;DR version

  • 2020 - Man And Elf, A Dragon's Treasure (Lisha and Drakan's sequels)
  • 2021 - Eris/Raphael's route added to main game
  • 2022 - After Story (formerly called "Second Semester"), a wrap-up for the main game which leads into Sable's Grimoire 2
  • 2023 - SG2 development starts
  • 2024 - SG2 release? Start development of Project Homonculus
  • 2025 - Project Homonculus release? Start development of My Elven Bride

The long version

Take this timeline as a general roadmap. None of this is definitive, none of this is set in stone. A lot can happen over a few years.

2020

Update: Man And Elf and A Dragon's Treasure have now been released.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1131410/Sables_Grimoire_Man_And_Elf/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/892990/Sables_Grimoire_A_Dragons_Treasure/

2021

Update: Eris/Raphael's route has now been released.

2022

Update: After Story has now been released.

2023

Development starts on Sable's Grimoire 2! Though it won't be done until at least 2024.

SG2 will be a more direct sequel, picking up where After Story ends.

SG2 will take place at the start of Sable's second year at Amadronia Academy. It will have more focus on some of the characters who didn't get as much love as they could have in the first game (like, I don't know... a certain gorgon?).

It will also introduce new characters who have just arrived at the academy. After all, Sable moving on to his second year means that new first-year students are due. And perhaps new teachers as well.

Personal developments for Sable (ie. events not focused on any heroines) will also come up, including matters pertaining to his research, his possible career path, and what effects his research might have on human society.

The exact routes of this game are undecided. Some of the new characters and rough routes have been outlined, but it's obviously far too soon for anything to be set in stone.

Regardless, there's a ton of stuff I want to put in SG2. It's probably going to end up being bigger than the original (eventually), and I'll likely handle it the same way. ie. Release with the common route and main character routes, then go back and add more content/routes over time depending on which characters are well-received, which parts of the game feel lacking, etc.

2024

Probably the year of SG2's release. If it takes longer, then the below will be pushed back accordingly. But anyway...

In 2024, development starts on Project Homonculus!

Spoilers if you haven't finished the True End for A Dragon's Treasure. Mild spoilers (just stuff you'd see on the store description eventually anyway) for Project Homonculus itself.

Project Homonculus is the sequel to A Dragon's Treasure, taking place chronologically after/during SG2. It follows Sable's attempts to make a body for Fafnir, his foray into terraforming magic, research into the bonding ritual, and of course, his evolving relationship with Drakan.

Throughout A Dragon's Treasure, Sable was forced to confront the growing problem of his sense of inferiority and complacency towards dragons. In the end, he realized that him constantly submitting to dragonkind wasn't doing any good, either for himself or for Drakan.

After resolving himself to treat Drakan more like a regular person, and his promise to her that he would be more proactive rather than just going with the flow, we now have Project Homonculus.

Project Homonculus will be more balanced than A Dragon's Treasure. Both in terms of content and the pacing of events.

In ADT, control is taken away from Sable early on. He can't remove the necklace, he can't stop the transformation, he's forcefully teleported across the continent... he's repeatedly at Nidhogg's mercy, and once he enters her domain, there's no going back to his peaceful academy days.

This time around, Sable will be free to act as he sees fit, and get back to doing what he does best: having his studies disturbed by his half-dragon roommate.

He'll be juggling the creation of homonculi, working on his terraforming project, researching the bonding ritual, playing around with Drakan... and maybe doing his classwork too, if he has time for that.

Research aside, there's certainly going to be more fluff in this game than A Dragon's Treasure.

Without spoiling too much, Sable's ability to be more assertive/in control is going to be put to the test as he tries to keep Drakan and Fafnir at bay. As it turns out, Fafnir isn't ready to be separated from her other half, and Drakan doesn't like the idea of him spending so much time with her.

Cue a weird triangle which is going to make it difficult for Sable to focus on his studies, let alone keep his promise to take more control of their relationship.

Additional routes/endings for SG2 will also be worked on during this period. Questions like "when?" and "how many?" will have to wait until Project Homonculus is finished.

2025

Probably the year of Project Homonculus's release. Unless SG2 and its additional routes push things back. But anyway...

In 2025, development starts on My Elven Bride!

Spoilers if you haven't finished the Good End of Man And Elf. Mild spoilers of the continuation itself (again, stuff you'd likely see on the store description anyway).

Like Project Homonculus, My Elven Bride will take place chronologically during SG2.

Meave is confined. Hagan is living with his new family. Ein is off smoothing things over with the leaders of other elven villages. Lisha is... pregnant, and running the academy in her father's absence.

With Lisha now being given a taste of what it would be like to run the academy, and her pregnancy coming to light, the discussions she has had with Sable are quickly turning from pillow talk into reality.

Meanwhile, what information will Meave's interrogation yield? Why would she go to such lengths, even seeking to imprison her own daughter, in order to amass power?

And of course, with decisions pertaining to Sable's future needing to be made sooner rather than later, it may be just about time to tell his parents that he's courting an elf...

Again, as with 2024, there will be work done on SG2 routes/endings during this time. And again like 2024, the who, what & when will have to wait until My Elven Bride is finished.

That's all, folks!

It's a long road ahead, and there's plenty of work to be done. Timelines will change, deadlines will be missed, and people will grow impatient. But that's the reality of a years-long roadmap from an indie developer.

When something of note happens I'll update this and post a new message on this discussion. Once SG2 has been released, future discussion will probably take place over there instead.

This is quite an undertaking! Thank you for your passion and desire to share that special wolrd with us.

This is a great ambition. Even if it takes years to unfold I'm going to follow as closely as I can. Given how much I've enjoyed the story in SG I'll be sure to check out the crime VN as you reveal it in the future.

SG2 also sounds interesting. You mention less involved characters so I'm guessing that means the 4 corners we missed in this one with Gorgon, Werewolf (I pray for Koko consideration), Yuki Onna, and (I can't remember what Hel was?) Doppelganger? I can't think of anyone else at the moment from the old cast, but I can't wait to hear about the ideas for that one!

Good deal. Nice to have a schedule, even a tenative one.

slightly off the subject, were you planning to release body pillows of Draken and Nidhogg?

(asking for a friend)

Damn this is actually really cool. It's extremely saddening to hear the sales haven't been stellar, but frankly this level of support for what is so far a really entertaining setting and cast of characters is pretty unheard of in my experience. I hope you have it in you to see this through no matter how long it takes, but regardless the fact that we're getting individual expansions for routes is absurdly awesome.

Wow, quite an astonishing amount of work you have planned here. I'm looking forward to all those, as I really enjoyed SG. So I immediately put the first two extensions on my wishlist so I don't miss them.

Nice.
Although I hope that just because they get their own sequel Drakan and Lisha won't be totally absent from the 2nd semester and SG2.

Good luck to you. I will definately put them on my wishlist.

I wanted to say I appreciate these updates and honestly you are by far one of my favorite developers. I have been hooked since TBNLT. Honestly I very very very rarely keep up with developers or names of writers. The only three I have kept up with for years are yourself, Teo Kuusela, and Paul Wang. I guess what I'm saying is Thank you immeasurably for the effort you put into your writing and thank you even more so for sharing it with the world. I am sorry about your sells and for what it is worth I genuinely want to see you succeed and I apologize for wasting your time with this post. Thank you.

Glad you're keeping us updated. With half these guys I have to hunt them down in BF Tazmakistan to get updates. I appreciate that.
(More fuel for my Narm x Tix's mom x Koko love triangle fanfic! Huzzah!). XD

Thanks guys, I'll try not to get too slack in posting updates. There usually isn't much to report (announce new game -> disappear for 6-12 months -> start posting details in lead-up to release), so I don't tend to post that much.

That being said, I do plan on updating this thread soon, now that Man And Elf and A Dragon's Treasure are both out. That should be next week some time. I'll comment here again when the initial post has been updated.
Zetsubou  [developer] Aug 7, 2020 @ 4:35pm
Or maybe I'll just post the update now instead?

I absolutely loved the story you made. I experienced it through youtube but wanted to show my support and bought the game here. Thanks very much for this masterpiece. Elf girls are best girls.

Hi, just finished Dragon's treasure, loved the game. I've been wondering whether the story about the origin of Sable's power would be continued in Project Homonculus or perhaps you would add it into SG2? Honestly it interests me more than any of the routes so far and would love to see it rather sooner than later. Cheers.

@David

It's hinted at in A Dragon's Treasure, but will be explored more in SG2, rather than Project Homonculus.
Azraeldestar Aug 14, 2020 @ 8:37pm
A question about Jorou's good ending. Is that one of the one's in the original game or the one that was added on in which Sable decides to take care of Jorou himself?
