General questions
The last "general questions and suggestions" thread generated a lot of great discussion, but it got uncomfortably big.

I'm going to start fresh with a new thread. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it. You don't need to wade through the other thread to make sure you're the first person to ask it; I don't mind answering a repeat.

The old thread has been around for over a year, since launch; I implemented a lot of great suggestions from those comments. As of now, though, I think Tametsi has all of the features it needs -- maybe not everything one could possibly ask for, but everything I want it to have.

That said, I'm not forbidding suggestions here -- just be forewarned that I will probably not implement anything new unless it's a bug fix or an accessibility issue.

Hey Tudwell,

Have you made any/are you in the process of making similar games? I would definitely play more. I came here initially to ask for a Mac port, but I read your post and it's ok.

Hi Alex; I'm not working on any other games right now, but I might some day. I write down any ideas that I have, and if I come up with one that I'm enthusiastic enough about, then I'll probably get to work. I don't know when that might happen, though.

Thanks, I appreciate your honest reply

I don't understand why some tiles have a colored outline on them. For example, Puzzle #8. There is an uncovered 1 tiles that has a red outline, but is only connected to a blue "mine". And a red-outlined 3 tile that is connected to 1 blue, and 2 red mines. Also a red-outlined 3, connected to 2 blues and 1 red. I restarted the game hoping to see a hint about this, but I'm not seeing it.

Sam, the tiles begin with different colors, and they keep that color when they're revealed or flagged as mines. The color is no longer relevant to the puzzle after they're revealed, but they keep a colored outline to remind you of which group they were in (and also for aesthetics).

The colors are only really significant because of the mine counts associated with each color; the numbers on tiles ignore colors.

If you peek at puzzle 14, it's a good example of this. There are two revealed tiles on the bottom row to begin with; one is a "2" with a yellow outline, and one is a "1" with a green outline. Those tiles are only yellow and green to fit the color pattern on the puzzle, and they behave just like any other numbered tiles.

Oh I see, thank you very much.

You're welcome! Since you're just starting out, I recommend checking out some of the options in the launcher. "Darken finished tiles" and the countdown options are nice if you can get used to them.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.

Just saw your edit, puzzle 14 was what was giving me pause, I couldn't figure out why they already had an outline. Using darkened finished tiles, will checkout the countdown options as well. Thanks again!

I was wondering if there was any chance of an achievement to complete every puzzle without error? I really like the game but considering you can brute force your way through levels I feel that the current achievements don't have much weight to them.
Tudwell  [developer] Dec 7, 2019 @ 6:28am
@Elliot There are already blue titles on the level select screen as a reward for finishing puzzles without mistakes. I think that one indicator is enough, and I would rather not have achievements tied to it.

Hi, newbie here! Just started playing, and I don't see how to progress...

The instructions say:
"If you are sure that a tile has no mine, left-click to reveal that tile."

... but there's no instruction about what to do if you're sure that a tile does have a mine. So I can't progress after this point.

(I have played Windows minesweeper, many years ago, so I'm guessing that I have to right-click to mark mines -- going to check that after I finish with this post -- but total newcomers to this game will be stuck here.)

Another issue: full-screen mode doesn't like my taskbar on the left side of the screen :(

Tudwell  [developer] Dec 22, 2019 @ 9:15am
The first puzzle tells you how to flag mines. The tutorial messages form a set of instructions that apply to every puzzle -- they're not isolated per-puzzle instructions.

I tested out the issue with the taskbar on the left; you're right, that's not the intended behavior, but luckily there's an easy fix. If you just use alt+enter to leave/re-enter full screen, it should fix itself.

This is definitely a bug, but it's risky to touch the window placement code after I've been away from it so long. Since there is such an easy work-around, I will probably not issue a patch for it -- as long as the work-around works for you.

Awesome, thank you for the response! Silly me, forgetting that the first puzzle tells you how to flag mines (in my defence I was confused looking for the 'next puzzle' button which was hidden, over to the right). I'll try the alt+enter fix, thanks for the tip!

[edit]Alt+enter works like a charm![/edit]
