Gems on first island?

So, I've only recently got the game and I've yet to complete the five isand but how do you get gems on the first island to get the griffin mount / archer statue / hermit? The wiki sais you cant, and I've tried clearing the island fully / dying wilst having loads of gems and nothing works? Do you have to complete island five to go back to 1? please help

once you build the boat on island 2 just go back to island one? ez

Returning to isle one even before getting iron age is arch-important - Archer statue is crucial.
